I’ve never heard of this happening; it’s very odd. I hope someone else has a better response than this, but my steps would be to virus-scan it, and if it’s clean, try re-installing. Also, try creating a new shortcut from the file itself. I myself don’t use Internet Explorer, so I can’t give any more specific advice than that, sorry.

If all else fails, install Mozilla Firefox. It’s a better internet browser anyway :P

Good luck, though. I hope you figure out what’s wrong with it.

have you tried to change the internet options? if you click on tool at the top, then on internet options.. look at the box that says…home page tabs… put in one address in there.. your home page address.. and click save or apply and then shut down your windows.. and reopen it.. it should fix it..

Yeah, if its not an issue with your system, then this is a great opportunity to switch to Firefox.
Its a much better browser. Safer, more user friendly, a little faster, and compliant with the latest web standards. IE itself is outdated technology, in my opinion.

Try running your spyware programs and see if there isn’t a web browser highjacking program running that what it sounds like. Hope this helps :-)

Would be a bit hard if nothing if explorer is freezing!

Try running explorer as an administrator. Also try closing Norton or any other antivirus software you run.

EASY FIX: RESTART.. press F8 key and release and repeat until a prompt screen comes up. Select SAFE MODE WITH C:\ PROMPT. Enter ” cd c:\windows\temp “. Delete everything in the TEMP folder with a command of ” delete *.* “. RESTART your computer. THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE GONE.

Optionally: also suggest: Run a spyware scanner/remover(such as SPYBOT or other). Run a virus scanner/remover (such as AVG or other). Running the scans may help remove “a sleeper program” which may have installed something into the TEMP directory to begin with.. otherwise, whatever was in the TEMP directory came from surfin’ the web.

I have your ANSWER!!! I had the same problem its because your internet options are showing 2 web addresses in your designated homepage. Just open your internet options and remove one of the website addresses.

I know I am a few years behind getting this to you but thats the answer easy and simple.

I had the very same problem and it was driving me crazy also. I looked here to see what everyone was saying and saw ~SHIE~’s answer and knew I had added a toolbar and done a few tweeks earlier in the week so I did what she said and there it was…a duplicate homepage entry under the first! I just deleted it and saved the entry, closed IE and restarted it and YAY! all was good again. So thank you ~SHIE~’, fantastic answer.

Joe

Its an easy fix… you have 2 home page address in your internet options. Go to tools/internet options

Look at the addresses for your home page, remove one

When I looked in ‘ tools, internet options, home page’ , I had two addresses in there. I deleted one and the problem was solved

None of these answers took care of my problem. I only have one home page listed in internet options. After I restart my computer clicking on the IE icon only opens one page, but after a while it starts opening one page. This is very frustrating.

This is the solution! (Thanks to Shie). When I checked it out I discovered that my home page was listed twice (not sure how that happened!). Anyway, deleted the second one and all is well.

I only have the home page listed once in Internet Options. I ran a registry cleaner and this seems to have taken care of my problem.
