I can help you with this question because I am having to get a title on a 1993 Honda accord I rcently purchased from a guy in Plano, TX. After I handed him 1200.00 cash, he said the title must have blew out of his pocket in the wind earlier that day………Yeah right>> Anyway, I wrote aout a bill of sale and got his signature.
I went to my local county tax assessor office and they gave me a title packet.
And I had to pay Two dollars for them to print me out a page of the car history (Prior owners or lien holders) In the title packet there is a list of things you must do to get the title.
1. Take a Picture of the car
2. send 2 certified letters. 1 to the last known owner and 1 to the lien holder
3. Fill out all necessary forms
I don’t know what state you are in, but it should not be that much different.
When you get everything together you take it to the tax assessor in your county.
Now, the title will cost you money. and they base it on a percentage of how much you paid for the car. I paid 1200.00 for mine and She said it will cost $156.00.
i asked her” what if i only paid $100.00 for the car?” She said that if the price I paid is really low, they have a book they use to figure the cars value and will base it on that. Keep in mind, I’m applying for a title and getting it put in my name so I can get tags, ins, etc. Are you the original owner and just lost the title, or are you taking it off someone elses name and putting it in your name.
I hope this help.
