i wont to replace my small 20gb hard drive with a new 500gb model.

what would be my best choice to do this. a system restore cd, disk imiagin softwear, system restore, or windows backup?

The easiest way in most cases is to backup all of your data that you want on your new hard drive, install the new drive, install the operating system with the recovery disc, install all your old applications and then copy back all of the data you backed up.

Do a disk to disk transfer, connect the new drive as a slave. From http://fixit.in
