I am competing in a speaking competition for my school, and have chosen to write a speech on the topic “The Greatest Danger Facing Our World Today”.

I was just wondering what people thought the greatest danger facing our world was, besides the obvious of terrorism, war, famine, and environmental vandalism etc?

The only real danger out their is “Global Warming” aka “Global Climate Change”. Everything else is simply a weapon of mass distraction.

The Bush Administration. It is unprecedented what they are doing, have done, and are planning to continue in the future.

Yes, but let’s be totally honest, Bush is first and foremost a local act of stupidity. An act of stupidity that will (I hope) resolve itself in about a year.

In the big picture Bush’s stupidity is a localized event that only hurts the USA. As much as we want to believe otherwise Bush is not a global scale disaster.

Really, what about the Iraq war. That’s not just hurting the US? What about his talks about war with Iran? Oh, then there’s North Korea…he put his incompetence in the mix there. Bush is a global disaster. In the big picture, if there is no more America because our civil liberties have been eroded away because of what he’s done, That is the global disaster.

The Iraq war is a mess the the USA is in.. IT’S GOING TO HURT US. An Iran war is going to hurt the USA. Our civil liberties are highly eroded under Bush. These are facts I agree with 100%. Plus, Bush let an American city sink Atlantis stile into the gulf of Mexico. He also doesn’t read.. and thinks that we all come from the great blue pumpkin (pray to the pumpkin, my child)…… But all said and done, he is not the end of the world.

But, if I was living in Canada, I would not care at all about American politics. The only reason I care about these things is because I am an American.

CAn we really blame everything on Bush? Our civil liberties have been erroding for years prior to Bush even entering the white house. Our government is as corrupt as any other and that is what will happen when you give one person more power than any other, you can’t expect him to have integrity too…. We have lost (and are losing) civil liberties because we allow it to happen. THere are many MORE people who say, ‘I don’t care what the government does as long as I can live my life’, than those who say, ‘I live my life in accordance with what the government does’. There are lots of ways to get involved and how many of us are? How many of us sit on the web and complain about the way it is, but do nothing to change it?

Taylor: maybe you can change it with your paper! Good luck.

I hope she can…she’s the future. But I’m extremely involved & fear it’s past changing. And yes, we really can Blame everything on Bush…it makes me feel better:)

But, if I can’t blame Bush, the second biggest danger to the world is religion. Religion causes more blood to be spilled on this planet than any other force.

This is an interesting post. I will be watching this one.

In my opinion, the greatest danger to the world is an apathetic attitude towards world problems. The “it does not affect me so, I don’t give a ****” attitude.

Now this is the right attitude!

lol… right African Killer Bees

There will always be a class struggle. There will always be corruption in power. There will always be fundamentalism in Religion…. these things will always be, and are a trouble to our world yes.

The bottom line, we were created to be care takers of the earth. When we start believing that…AND acting in that way (EACH ONE OF US), only then will we see improvement… the greatest danger is man’s apathy to his spirit and the neglect of his responsibilities.
bright blessings~
Richard

I love the question!

I would say the greatest danger is each individual becoming so sucked up into our own little worlds that we are not willing to stand up for justice, equality and a right to basic living standard. This is what allows governments and businesses to mistreat and overlook those wihout power, because they think no one is willing to risk their comforts for others. (kind of like screamingly wonderful says)

The problem with CA-MRSA is no one understands it when poeple come into the hospital ceptic so they die, and there is no cure for it as it is a superbug that devours antibiotics for lunch!

Good luck ~smiles~

there are so many good ideas on here that i think i will write a speech saying that their isn’t just one “greatest” danger, but many. It is interesting to read that alot of people have suggested things like everybody get stuck in their own world and thinking that “it wont affect me” because being ignorant to what is happening in the world around is definitely dangerous!. Thankyou so much for your help :)

oh I got it wrong our politician said shocking increase in Obesity, because of poor health and early death.

And unless I missed it, (sorry if someone did) AiDS in many Third World countries, or even those like South Africa which could do a better job of controlling it if they excepted condoms prevented it and Western drugs can help rather than thinking going with a virgin will cure you. Of course then the West should make the drugs cheap and available. There’s the Catholic Churches teaching too but we won’t start on that. : )
