I am a 21 year old college student in some pretty serious debt.
I was a complete moron, and a couple years ago I went a little credit card crazy. I applied for the cards to get some help with paying for things while going to school. Suddenly I had 4 maxed out credit cards. I was paying the minimum payments and keeping up for a while, but then I lost my job. I am not going to act innocent. I made some pretty stupid decisions. Anyway I was starting to miss monthly payments on my cards. Suddenly, my payments began going up to over $100 a month per card. I could not pay that! I did not know what to do. I could not turn to my parents for help, they had no money. Now all of my debt has been turned over to collections agencies. I am constantly being called and sent letters. But I cannot pay these debts in full! I make 8.50 working at a day care. I am so scared of what is going to happen to me. I am about 7 grand in debt, which does not seem like a lot compared to other people, but it might as well be a million to me. I know there are credit counselers out there that can help…but who do I go to? What is one that will help me with a smaller debt? Ive tried to apply for help but some only help with higher debts. I just do not know what to do!
