I’m 25, and I still have no idea what I want to do with my life.
I have a job, but it isn’t good enough. I would love to do someting with music, as I would be lost without it, and I know quite a bit about it. The problem with this is that I live in Alberta, Canada, and there realy isn’t a music industry here, and I can’t afford to move anywhere. I feel like I’m stuck at a stand still, and hit rock bottom. I know it’s up to me to figure this stuff out, but it always helps to get an opinion, and get it off your chest.

Wow…that is tuff…I’m much older than you my friend (age 60 and retired) and went thru a similiar thing when I was much younger. The BEST advise I can give you, looking back on my life, as I did a job for 25 years that was NOT fun. I was an insurance adjustor for State Farm, great company, but a TUFF job..PLEASE, save your money, and pursuit your dream. Do something that you love to do!!! I think, it was Donald Trump who said, it is not work when you love what you are doing! And, he also said, if you love it, YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL….
So, follow your likes and your dreams my friend..
Good luck!
i know its hard to listen to ur heart, but thats what u shud do to be happy. simple words, but so true! if u love music and would like to work in the industry, do it.
Alberta, Canada, home of the Albertasaurus, the bread basket of that great Northern Country.
…yeah… there’s not much up there, huh?
You say you can’t afford to move anywhere. Why? Just pack up what you can carry, sell what you can’t, and MOVE. DO IT. When you get there, you’ll find a job, and a place to live, but if you never go, you will never do. Just don’t go to Michigan, the auto industry was based there, and when that went down the tubes, it took Michigan’s economy and jobs with it, lol. My best advice is not to dwell on tomorrows anxieties. Let me share you a verse, lol,
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” -Matthew 6:24 (King James)
In more plain English,
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:24 (New American Standard)
Take whichever version you want, they all say the same.

Just think of it this way, a thought will remain just a thought unless you take action.
Take Care,
Dan
Therapsis, good point and certain something for him to consider.
Something he might consider, is allowing music to pay for his additional education. Weekend gigs etc. can earn extra money.
And, the Churches really need good music people.
Anon. I desperatly wish that I had a great peice of advice for you. However, I have none. I think we would both have much in common as I am in your same exact situation. So, if you here anything good, let me know. Good Luck.
I dont know if you’re a male or female but if u cant afford to move how about trying to come to the US as an au pair they acept both males and females as an au pair you’ll come to the US as a live in nanny or manny(male nanny) (so no rent OR LIVING EXPENSES they provide you a car so no car insurance payments). If you do this since child care is not ur ambition I suggest you be very picky about the families pick only those with older school aged children so the kids are gone from morning till 3 ones that dont need you weekends at all which will typically families with older kids.Try to get families in NY,ATL,LA theres a music scence there. The pays not great 140USD per week but in ur case its better than nothing right it cld be a start to come try to reach your goals also your’e around affluent families so hey who knows what break you cld get.As for me I worked for a family the dad was a movie producer the mom a photographer and lived right next to Steven Spielberg in Brentwood LA its just that hollywood wasnt my dream but if it was these pple were nice and they wld have helped. Now I’m not working but the last family I worked(no longer an au pair now a live out nanny pays more) paid $1000/35 hr week no weekends started in the afternoons to pick up kids(4 school aged kids 2 boys ang 2 girls) and basically drive them around there was a housekeeper 5 days a week so no cleaning etc left cause moved to be closed to a guy in Atlanta and start graduate school herethey gave me a nice bonus and car when i left. Its a suggestion goodluck other ways cld be getting a job as a personal assitant to a star it pays well and you can learn the game i wanted to do that job for the pay but its demands too much flexibility and I was going to school so it wld clash at least as an afternoon nanny I went to college in the mornings worked in the afternoon and got paid well enough to pay my own way through school. Gdluck
do you know if you can take classe online or something??? that would be cool if you could do that, I know you can take online courses but I don’t know what exact on music.
try to find musicians, make music, prodcast it. do any thing and every thing u can.
but ask urself this, am i realy a musician, or i’m just a guy who likes music? is it a thing that u make, is it the think that runs in ur head all the time?
what do u play
music industry is a major field… what kinda job that you’re trying to find?
musician, or labels?
“If you love it, YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL….” That is so true.
Don’t waste your life working merely for the money or job security or a good pension.
Listen to what your heart tells you. We all waste too much time in our lifes letting our fears hold us back from what we tuly want to do. As you get older you realize you don’t have anything to lose really… Life goes by so fast and life is for living our dreams. That’s all that matters. That’s what it’s for so don’t screw it up, alright?
I’ve noticed a lot of older people doing wild things they never dared do before, living like there’s no tomorrow. That’s because they have a good reason for feeling that way!
All I’m saying is just follow your dreams in the most REASONABLE way but never give them up. Nothing else matters. So if you think you should move then try it. What’s the worst that could happen? You’ll learn stuff about yourself, you’ll see new things and meet new people. Mmmm…. Doesn’t sound bad to me.
Or… try getting accepted in some college in another province maybe where you could study music. If that’s what you really want to do, maybe you should give it a try.
Well, I hope some of what I have wrote shines a little light on your present situation. :)
Hey, not knowing where you are going can be LOTS of fun…the best trips in my life was just going a directions and see where we landed…so relax and enjoy the ride my friend!!!!!!!!1
