I need some helpful advice :)

I am having issues at work. I am in a supervisor position, there have been problematic employees on my shift and every single time i warn them about their laziness and horrible work ethic, they basically blow me off. I have gone to higher ups reporting this type of behavior. One employee got fired, and in a few hour due to favoritism, they were rehired. Tomorrow we have a general meeting and I am wondering if I should even bring this up. This is not the first time. They constantly ignore what the other shift supervisors and I have to say about these employees. I feel discouraged to even report or really do my job. Should I say anything, or just let it go. I feel restrained to even monitor the work of these employees because when I show what is going on, good and bad, I get no results… Feels like I would be just wasting my breath. After all, I have done it multiple times as well… grrrrr oh yeah… and also! I feel as though, these individuals get paid to do absolutely nothing, while I work extremely hard to keep my job. Should I just mind my own **** business.. I always feel that way..

Oh well I at least needed to vent.. thanks for your time.

Yes, that’s what you should do. You’ve done your job. Mind your own business. If anyone starts complaining, you can bring it up and tell them what happened but otherwise don’t mess them.

If I were you, I’d start looking for a better job, where I would be respected.

Monitoring their workflow, and the workflow of the department IS your business, and of course you should mind it. If you want respect you must keep your integrity. Loose your integrity, and you will loose respect. If you are not getting the support from your manager proceed as you would as a good supervisor, without them. You do not have to do their work (either the manager or the subordinate). DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. every meeting, every reprimand, every word spoken… document, docuMENT, DOCUMENT! Do not surrender your work ethic for theirs. Then you life there will truly be hell. If you management will not help you terminate and hire the right people… take your documentation to HR. See if there is anything that can be done.

I’m with Richard. Do your job the best you can. If there is one employee who is doing well encourage him. If there is one employee you need improvement from let him know. Give him strong supervision. Make sure he knows the right things to do. Document your work with him. If his performance is unacceptable after you have given him help and time to improve - give him his final warning and a deadline for improvement with specific measurable performance requirements in writing and verbally. If your supervisors have him rehired they obviously don’t care about performance and if you do you may want to find a place that will appreciate your effort.

Right Jim…

and poster… if you do have to leave because people you fire are just rehired (especially in the same roll!) there a loop in the wrongful discharge laws. If a company makes it impossible for you to do your job… or has made your job so distasteful that is causes you to quit, you can still sue for wrongful discharge. Of course as the plaintif you will need volumes of proof… but that is what I’ve already recommended you do by documenting everything.
