A friend’s mom had passed away a few years ago.

Do I ask: “what is your mother’s name?” or “what was your mother’s name?”

(I am doing a 180 mile bike ride to help raise money the the MS Society. His mom had MS. She passed away. He and his family have donated over $200 to help with the fund raiser. I want to ride with “In memory of” accessory but don’t know how to ask for her name.)

Just explain why you need and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind telling you

God Bless you! My mother and father are both gone and I know that pain, but honoring your loved ones is a noble deed.

My father died from M.S. actually you usually don’t die from MS, just all the complications it brings on. Anyway it’s a long term disease so, while they are probably in morning, they also understand that the suffering is over.

What you are doing is very honorable. In what ever way you decide to ask they will be touched to know that your doing this. Of course hehehe is right. Your also wise to be considerate of the situation. I would be just yourself and go ahead and ask.
