Well, short answer, that’s just the way it is, it’s unfortunate but it’s a way of life.
My guess is because it’s heavily influenced by the culture that created it. Which begs the question, “Why was Middle Eastern culture so sexist way back in the day?”.
Middle East culture is STILL way sexist, yknow. Today, its estimated 50 Afghani women died from not getting medical attenton because they need their husband/father’s permission to go to the hospital, just for ONE example.

Islam is a theocracy. Meaning it’s government is tied directly to the religion… laws are based on religion…it is basically a way of life. This can be good and bad. Islam is an ancient religion, and it is inherently inflexible. It has basically not changed since Mohammad spoke his first words, and is from a time when the entire world was sexist. The world was for the most part a patriarchal society. Only a very few matriarchal societies existed.
I’m relived. I was prepping myself for getting some dipshit hardcore Muslim to come on and be like ’cause women were created by God to serve their husband!”. Glad I got some reasonable people.
But Richard, I saw your profile and saw that you are a religious man.Don’t interprit this as an attack or anything, but do you think its wrong to practice religion when religion is sexist/homophobic, or to believe God can only be male?
Thank you for such a respectable question… I am in no way offended. First let me say I do not believe God has a gender… it is too omnipotent for such things… wayyyyyy beyond our understanding. When the Bible speaks of being created in God’s image, I believe it is speaking of God’s ability to create. We ALL have this same ability… Jesus taught us that these things I do, you too will do… only BIGGER! Buddha taught us, The mind is everything! In terms of being sexist or homophobic… many of the religions are like that, and it is indeed unfortunate. But I’m not sure that it is only religion that teaches such things. I’m confident that we could find an atheist out there that feels the same way. What we are speaking about is ignorance, not blind religious dogma. To cubbyhole it as such would be naive in my opinion. And it is only fought on the battle field of education. Some refuse to show their face on that front… and so the battle must be brought to them. Religions are founded by men, in an attempt to explain that which has no explination. As such, many assumtions have and will be made. Time and wisdom filters out the dross… and those willing to stand up for injustice.
Bright blessings~
Richard
Aw, that was an awesome answer, Richard. Careful or you’ll convert me.

lol… not looking for conversions… but if I start my own church… I’ll let you know :)
Apparently, the sad part is after a few years, Islam was monopolized. The Koranic interpretations, the laws and ideas all changed to serve the purpose of the elite few. Even today, it is not islam that is sexist, but the cultures it is based in, that are pro-male dominant. It wasn’t that long in history when even in the US women didn’t had the right to vote. Its human nature and has nothing to do with Islam. As for Islam, 49:13, 33:35, 3:194,4:1 The Koran clearly talks about that there is no difference between a man and a woman except for physical difference. The only problem is most people either ignore, dont read or read the heavily influenced interpretations. It also states about allowing a women to have jobs.
The arab culture was as such that when a daughter was born to them, they would bury her alive thinking of it as an insult to the family.
When one of them is given the good news of a baby girl, his face darkens and he is furious. He hides away from people because of the evil of the good news he has been given. Should he keep her ignominiously or bury her in the ground? What an evil judgment they make! (Surah An Nahl:58-59)
I am not a religious man, but I like to study anything I believe in deeply rather than like most of my sect that just believe what they were told. Which is the root cause of all this violence.
Actually Richard, that was a terrible answer. Your confidence that you could find an atheist that also harbours sexist/homophobic views is completely irrelevant. COMPLETELY irrelevant. Whether or not society promotes sexist views is not the issue, as social laws are dynamic and are not considered eternal objective truths.
The teachings of God are considered objective, eternal truths. And they are also sexist and homophobic. The question is, how do you feel about accepted a being whose teachings are clearly sexist and homophobic? Surely, if you believe that the being exists, you cannot argue with his teachings?
Again, saying that atheists can be found that also harbour sexist and homophobic views is completely irrelevant as to how YOU FEEL about accepted a God whose teachings are sexist and homophobic. I’m not sure if you are incapable of rational thought, or if you are consciously attempting to confuse people (which is pretty easy; your completely irrelevant point apparently nearly converted someone…..ffs). To say that sexism and homophobic views exist outside the bible is no defence as to why they exist WITHIN the bible.
So, do you accept the teachings of the bible, or not?
