If I remember correctly weapons were illegal, that is why Paul Revere and 2 others warned of the arrival of the Brits.

Because they where building up arms to fight against the British. There where rumors that the British were going to raid and steel from the armory(which they did) so people hid sperate wepons to be prepared for the war.
