Okay maybe its just me, but I can’t seem to find a comprehensive guide to how help.com works.

I have been able to figure out most of it easily enough. But I noticed that in my profile there is a counter for “links” I would like to add links to relavent information, but I haven’t been able to find out how to do it. Also, is there like a Wiki for this page that would help me learn more about its functionality. I have only been at this for like an hour, and already I have posted several replies, but I am not sure about the rest of it - Things like “links added” and “Shout outs” seem kinda vague to me. Any help would be much appreciated.

PS - It might be good for someone to create a “How Help.com Works” post.

hi Vince - Really great points, and our moderator Chris is actually working on this. To answer your specific questions, you can add a link by using the box at the very end of the ‘Automatic Bookmarks’ list, to the right of this reply — currently this is the only way to get credit for adding links (it’s a bug). You can also add links to the Bookmarks in a post by including them in your reply, but we’re not giving credit for these yet in your profile (again, it’s a bug). As for shoutouts, we don’t make it easy enough to leave one, but if you click on a user’s avatar, and go to their profile page, you can click on the link in the stats section that says “Shoutouts” to leave the user one.

2 things:

1) The “add a link” funcionality was actually removed. It simply wasn’t used enough to justify keeping it around. Instead, simply add the link by copy/paste into the reply box and leave it as a reply.

2) The quick way to get to a persons shoutbox is to click the megaphone next to their name. A “shoutbox” is, essentially, a personal chat room for each user. Use it to thank them, chat, or point them to posts you think they could help with.
