Do the believers of these two religions believe in the same God?

YES! Christianity and Catholism have the same GOD which is “JESUS”, and both believe in the Father, Son, Holyspirit are ONE. However , they differ in practice of worship.
Catholic worship traditionally and not really accoring to the bible, like putting candles to man made Saints, God statue. Moreover they evn kneel down to these Statue in likeness of Saints and Jesus. Furthermore, they pray unto Mary the mother of Jesus.
Christianity , worship in spirit and Truth, with no man made statue to represent God. They Solely, worship, pray in one GOD and that is “JESUS”. They follow the “BIBLE” to the core.
FROm: -rey- :)
I’m not one to be an expert on relgions, but in answer to you question, yes.
The Catholic Church is in fact, a Christian church. The only real differences between Catholics and the way other Christian religions work, is they have different beliefs and customs. Also, they are mainly influenced by the The Vatican, (Rome, Italy) hence the term “Roman Catholic” (However, I do believe there is a slight difference between Roman Catholics and Catholics, but I could be wrong)
Though, long story short, they do worship the same God, just in different ways. There are many different Christian Churches as well as there are many ways of defining what relgion is what belief. Jehovah’s Wittnesses are also known to be Christian, the only difference there also, is both their beliefs, and the fact they call God by another name.
But all the same, they go by the bible. Therefore, worship the same God as it says to in the 10 Commandments. Most religions in modern times these days, are in fact Christian, including Catholics, Mormons, Assembly Of God, and Baptists. However there are some religions that while they do worship the same God, they are not seen or knonw in majority as Christian, ie; Judaism, Islamic, and Scientology.
I hope this helps and it’s explained in a way that can be understood.
Regarding the second question you’ve asked…
YES, they both believe in the same God.
Now the difference between Christianity and Catholicism is not black and white. You are actually asking, “What are the differences between denominations of Christianity?”
Catholics are Christians by definition. They believe in the existence of Christ and that he was the son of God - the number one thing that differentiates a Christian from other religions.
Perhaps this site might answer some of your questions:
Christians (Christianity) believe in Jesus, Catholics (Catholicsism) are types of Christians who practice different denomonations of Christianity, like Presbtyrians, Lutherans, Epsicipalians, Methodist and many other branches. If you ask me, they’re all the same: there’s Jesus and God, they love everyone and it doesn’t matter what the differences are. They all have slightly different histories and religious pasts.
Catholics like to place emphasis on honoring the virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus.
That is right to do so, because the bible says she will be most blessed among women.
Catholics refer to other Christians as Protestants (A protester - i suppose a protester of the
Catholic church?).
Back in the day Martin Luther disagreed with some aspects of the
Catholic church, separating the 2 a bit. I noticed the Catholics have a wonderful emphasis putting money toward feeding the poor (also called the benevolence fund). Usually Christian non-catholics have this too, but approach it a different way through an organization such as the Salvation Army or similarly in what’s called a church pantry.
Catholics also believe you must confess your sins to a human priest or you will be endanger of hell-fire. Non-catholic Christians believe anyone can go to the High Priest Jesus in prayer (talking with God) for confession.
There’s more but there’s not enough room on this page.
for all Christians ,the Greek orthodox are the original christian followers since day one….
isn’t catholicism a form of Christianity, along with the other like 5,000 other types, like protestant, methodist, ect…
I have not read the above posts… however Catholasism is a denominaton of christianity. the same as pentacost, anglican, baptist, aposilistic, and so on and so forth.
a better question would be do christians and islam believe in the same god.
and technicly Christian is not a religion, christian is simply the beliefe that Jesus is the son of god and that he is the savior.
Ok, that is what I thought, Anonymous, I was merely pointing out that people are still acting as though Christianity is its own religion. Which it is, however, they make it seem like there’s catholicism then Christianity, that they’re separate religions, whereas catholicism is simply a form of Christianity. Christianity differs only from religions such as Buddhism, and Paganism, religions that do not see Jesus Christ as our “Savior” merely a man who could do extraordinary things. I hope that people understand this
the bigest religious differences when put in contrast to christianity, is this:
Islam, Muslam, Jewdaism (I apologize for spelling), and christianity all believe in the same god. however the first religions that I mention beleive that Jesus was not the son of god… they believe that he was a profit…
however like I said before catholisism and christianity cannot be compaired because they are one in the same.
Christianity is the root belief system derived from Judiasm.
Catholocism was the only name of Christianity until a little after the middle-ages, when Luther disagreed with some of the Catholic customs. He then formed a sanction of Christianity named “Lutheranism”. It took the beliefs of Catholicism, but omitted certain customs. Luther was followed then by Calvin, and King Henry VIII.
So in essence Christainity is the belief, once called Catholicism, then broke off into Protestantism.
Judiasm -> Christianity/Catholicism -> Protestantism (Baptist, Lutheran, Calvanist, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Assembly of God. etc.)
yes they belive in the same God witch is jesus the father. however the roman caltic belive that there should be popes and monks and nuns. they practice caliocism slightly not accoring to the word. but they are al 1 we are 1 type we beleive in 1 God. we are still cristains so wats the piont to fight about our belives in Christ if he is still God and as long as we belive in God then thats good

Ah but then it gets even more in depth.
Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all derived from the same root as well. Yet we still fight each other to the death.
Catholicism is a type of Christianity
They believe in the same God
Just different things
There is Christianity, then there is Catholicism. Christianity is not a religion, it is a lifestyle. living for jesus, baptism of the holy ghost, following ONLY the bible. Catholicism will not save you. i used to go to a catholic church and you do not feel the presence of god watsoever.
As far as I can see from all of your posts, there is a VERY crucial element that was failed to be recognized, and one that is central in the Catholic faith. This is the practice of the Eucharist. The whole Sacrament of Communion, while acknowledged in some of the other forms of Christianity (Protestant, etc.), it is not recognized in the modern-day “non-denominational” Christian church. Catholics truly believe that the taking of Communion is to receive the body and blood of Christ.
It is also important to acknowledge that, while some of the other Christian religions engage in the Eucharist, they do not omit the allowance of women “priests” or reverends. In the Catholic religion, only men are accepted into the priesthood and clergy.
As mentioned throughout the posts - which is accurate - there are many Christian religions: Catholicism, Presbyterian, Protestant, etc. While they all vary slightly in how they practice their worship and faith, they are all Christian and believe in the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). And Christianity, as someone also stated above, is a WAY OF LIFE that Jesus Christ commanded us to live.
Great discussion!

what
The Catholics are doing 90% correct. They follow Jesus and that is great. There are afew problems…10% (maybe more)
1. the first commandment is to have no other gods before Him. Catholics pray to idols of Mary and a few others I am not certain. They pray to others besides God, including the Saints, who have nothing to do with Jesus. They were good followers of the Lord, but can do nothing for you. In revelation an angel appeared to John, and he bowed down to the angel, but the Angel said he should not. So why are they doing it still.
2. The euchrist is believed to really be Jesus Himself. Now if you remember the last supper, when Jesus told them to do ” do this in rememberance of me”. Thats all. we should take of the cup and eat of the bread remembering Him and all he did for us. The Catholics say that Jesus is there on the alter. Well I believe that Jesus is with us all the time. He did say ” and surely I will be with you, even to the end of the age.” He is with us, not only when the waffer and wine come out.
3. Indulgenced prayer. Where in the Bible does it say that saying this prayer before a crucifix will enable us to gain an indulgence of 10 years. Find it please and show me. Besides I am not too worried about 10 years because I have eternity to live out and that is long…………
4. Praying to Jesus. Does the Bible not say (actually Jesus himself talking) that we should pray to the Father in His name? So why, when I look at a Catholic prayer book, do I see them praying to Jesus. Jesus said we are to pray to the Father in Jesus name. and as I said in my first point that The Father is the only one we pray to. No angels, no saints.
5. Purgatory. Do a search, and you will not find anything such as this in the Bible. when Jesus was on the cross, the one robber said ” surely you are the Christ” and what did Jesus say? ” Today you will be with me in paradise”. Well that doesn’t sound like a place where apparently you suffer until they are fit to be admitted to the presence of God. The way they put it makes it sound like Jesus didnt really do a good job on the cross. That we still need a cleansing before going to heaven. God Himself, the Father tore the veil, inviting us into His throne Room. What an amazing blessing, Gods Grace.
6. Confessions. well I do believe that we sin, even when we are saved. So there has to be further forgiveness. But I totally dont agree with going into a little box and tell the Father your sins. You can do this right next to your bed. Remember that the veil has been torn, so we do not need someone else to talk to God for us. This is all part of the new covenant. And I saw that doing confession makes the Priest Holy. God is no respector of man, so how can it make him Holy.
7. Born-again. Jesus said you have to be born-again of spirit and you believe He died for your sins so you might enter heaven. So why is it that Catholics do not actually give their lives to Christ? You have to actually make a decision and make Jesus Lord of your life. You cannot go to Church every Sunday and think you are going to Heaven. You must confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord. Angus Buchan once said ” Good people don’t go to Heaven, if that were the case, the Muslims would go before us, because their good works are far more than ours. No, Bleivers go to Heaven.” we are not worthy to recieve His Grace, but He really loves us and He is Mighty to save.
Summertimekno - thank you for that reply! I am a catholic. I believe every word you’ve said to be true (however the catholics have 7 more books in their bible than do the protestant churches and within those 7 books are mentions of purgatory, praying for the dead, etc. so if you are to search the bible for truth, you would need to search the catholic bible to see where the catholics get those instructions/beliefs.) Are these 7 books truly the inspired Word of God? Honestly, I don’t know. They were removed from the tradional protestant bible in the middle ages….were they ordained by God? So, yes, catholics are christians and they have some traditions and beliefs beyond what protestants believe but the core belief is the same….that by Grace alone you are saved through Christ. No man can earn his way to heaven by good works. The good works are fruits of the spirit that come from obedience to Christ not as a way to earn your way to heaven. The only way to heaven and eternal life with God, is through turning away from sin and turning toward Christ, believing He is the son of God, is God himself made man, died and rose and overcame sin by doing so….the only way to God is accepting Christ’s sacrifice and resurection and claiming it for yourself. Catholics are christians.
Catholicism is not Christianity, & one does not derive from the other. Jesus started Christianity with the church he left to Peter. Because Catholics go by tradition and not the word and “kneeling” before statues is what makes Catholicism the wrong choice. the only one u should praise is Jesus and the one to have “confession” with. you cant even consider Catholicism and Christianity the same.
if you believe john 3′16 and 1 john 1′7 are true, and that catholicism and christianity really are the same then why are you not a christian? why the differences? there’s differences because catholicism and christianity are not even remotely similar, and there are no other forms of christianity or denominations. everything, every other religion/belief is traced back to christianity. (barbyman is wrong, Jews were the original followers of Christ- every “CHRISTIAN” nows this) and christianity is not a religion its a lifestyle. majority of religions “and” christianity belive in a God so that is a meaningless comparison. the question is “What is the differenc between christianity and catholicism?’ what kind of response is YES they do belive in the same God its got nuthin to do wit gods
im a catholic…but i wanted to find out what the different beliefs were to make sure catholicism is the way to go for me. just because my dad is catholic doesnt mean i have to be. it all depends on what you believe in. im only a middle schooler so what do i know right? but after searching this topic for a while i realized that ive been agreeing with and living the christian lifestyle. i dont believe that you should have to confess your sins to a priest/minister, i dont pray to anyone but god, i just dont agree with how catholics “worship god” because really, it doesnt make sense! maybe christianity is branched from catholicism, but they are competely different. many, many, many different beliefs. so what im saying is that if your like me, trying to figure out exactly what these religions/lifestyle are, then READ!!! read everything relateing to the topic. it really helps in the longrun. figure out exactly what you believe in and what your getting into.. GOOD LUCK!!! =D
we are saved by Grace alone!!
Christians and Catholics are 2 completely different things. Starting with the name. if they are the same…why are they named something else? Catholics have added books to the bible even though in Deuteronomy it clearly states not to add or subtract from the word. Catholics feel they need to do good works to receive grace, even though God says grace is a gift. And Gods word SHOULD be enough. Also, you don’t need to do good works to be forgiven. If that’s true then God would not have taken our sins upon himself, and he would not of had to die. Also, God wants us to pray to him…not Mary or anyone else. He does not desire that, Mary cannot hear you and she cannot do anything for you…she can’t put a good work in for you! That was not God’s plan. It’s like the Catholics decided to pick and choose what parts of the bible they want to abide by and add in their own ideas of what will get them to heaven, as if God’s word isn’t enough….you don’t need to scare yourself into religion. KNOW why you do what you do and why you believe what you believe.
hey guys i just want voice my opinion…….
Any religion/ denomination that lives by rules…. not personal conviction & has to do certain things in order to get to heaven, it is not right.
The reason why christianity is diffeent os we have actual freedom in christ. Anotherwords,we dont have to do ONE thing to get to heaven … its all based upon jesus dying for us.
Yes you do have to do one thing. you MUST truly believe in your heart that he did die for you, he loves you,& the only way for you to get to heaven is to actually believe that& see you need a saviour because there really is not one thing we can do no matter how good.wasnt there good people in the bible?
well not all of them went to heaven .
when you hear “born again” or “saved”,what that means is an actual new birth ,but not in a physical sense, but spiritualy…..
saved is being saved from our sins , because lets face it some one has to pay for them?? do you want to? i dont….
so its easy to be born again or saved …
just repeat this prayer you can stop after reading one sentence if you like & say it……..
“father i believe in my heart jesus died for me, i know i am a sinner, im giving you my life. come into my heart & i will follow you……. (important) in jesus name Amen……..
Thats it!
Now go, find yourself a bible believing church where you can learn everything & be with other christians!!:))
god bless you.

Whoa……….. It’s getting really complicated here.
To me, it doesn’t matter, as long as you believe in Jesus, and in god the father.
I’m born a buddhist, from a buddhist family. I was only saved in year 2008.
I call my self a catholic, because i prefer to go to those traditional cathedrals, and the only 1 in my hometwn is a catholic church which i attend. Other christian churches are shoplot churches.
The day i converted, i could actually feel god’s grace, so I really cherish it, and i’m very thankfull of our father, and jesus. I would try my best to always give my entire life to jesus, and also to always do what is rightous, which i thought most christians would be.
Ever since then, i started to join fellowships, and started to know a lot of christians, whom r mostly born christians.
However, i soon realize that a lot of them r hypocrites.
They thought that solely believing in jesus would grant them eternal life, and that they do not need to behave themselves, or to do what is right, or to keep the commandments.
I disagree. I personally think it is better for you not know jesus (how i was when i was younger) but still do good, than to believe in jesus but yet do not do good.
A lot of these people who are born christians do not really understand the difference between life without christ and life with it. I know it, and thus i cherish with all my soul.
And, about this confession thing. Do you know that it is actually easier to confess at your bed, than to actually confess it to a man (or priests) which is a lot harder?
Based on my personal experience, the likelihood of me repeating a sin after confessed it at my bed is higher than having confessed is to a man. It is so much easier to confess it at my bed, which i took for granted.
I’m not saying that confessing at you bed is bad, but it deponds on preferences. It is stil a hell lot better than not confessing it. There is no right or wrong, it is just how you do it. If you prefer confessing at your bed because it is better in your case, who cares? As long as you do confess, and not repeating it, that’s what matters, others do not.
You can’t say that confessing to a priests/man is wrong. Yes, some may suggest that the scripture do not say so, but that’s no the point. It doesn’t matter if you confess to a priests or at your bed, the main point is that YOU DO CONFFESS!!!
That is what the lord wants, that we confess our sins, and do not repeat it again. That’s the main point. It doesn’t matter how you do it.
So…………. Don’t worry about which type of christian church you believe in.
As lon as you believe in Jesus and the Father, and do what is rightous. That’s all that matters. Others don’t.
