Anyone knowledgeable about music?

I’m taking a Fundamentals of Western Music class this semester. Our midterm was a composition for solo piano, and I really enjoyed it! I was just wondering if anyone would want to read it and comment… You know, what I shouldn’t do or what I could do better, that sort of thing.

I can upload a midi file of the piece, it won’t sound that great but if you want me to, just let me know :D

Nice work appassionata.

The only critique I have is about the staccato rising chords, the G, Am, Bm progression. I think more could be happening there, as it doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the piece.

Playing around with it on my piano, I’d try playing the first two Gs as is, then trill B to A to B for the second bit, then resolve the measure with the G chord. Something like this:

3 variations of the idea to spice it up a little.

I didn’t mean for them to be staccato at all actually, the midi just turned out that way. I wanted more of a swelling, pulsing crescendo… I meant for the rising progression to fit in as a sort of counter to the main theme, which is mostly descending.

But you’re right that more could be going on, I think the trills are a good idea. That’s actually the one section that my teacher commented on too, so I guess it needs some more development.

Thanks very much :D

just wow?

coming from you, that could be a very bad wow, or a very good wow.

(or maybe it’s just wow because you forgot what else you were going to say, I hear it gets like that as you get older)

Wow meaning I am so impressed. I love music, but have always been in awe of people who can create it. It seems like the ultimate math game.

It flows nicely. I especially appreciate all the triplets. :) gotta love triplets. Just out of curiosity, why is there a completely blank line at the end? Is it just a formatting thing…?
