Photography.

I’m trying to become and photographer and will soon be going to school for photography to learn the business aspects of it and also find out which photography i’d like to do. On to my question though. Does anyone know what “scouts”, I guess they would be called, look for in a headshot? I have searched the net a little and found out a couple things. If anyone knows, it’d be helpful. xox.

lighting, for soft shots the early morning natural light is the best. meaning, does the person in the picture and your background truly depict what your trying to have people percieve. the main subject in the picture is exactly that, nothing should draw more attention than the main subject and the environment should flow with the picture. eye contact is big too. im going to school to be an architect but i would like to minor in photography :D

Wow. Well that makes a whole lot of sense lol. Thank you. You know, I didn’t even think about making sure the main subject is the main subject. Not the sky or the backdrop. Hmm. Thank you so much. :) xox

Hah, it doesn’t sound gay at all. Nature is beautiful.

I’d so much rather be behind the camera than in front of it. I like pictures of myself but only if I get to photoshop them up and choose. I think it’s a control thing. Models want to be told how to pose and photographers want to tell them how to pose. I like being in control lmao. I’m so manly! :P

Couple of quick things that I’ll point out (I’m assuming that you want to know how to take good head shots when you asked this question).

First, make sure the eyes are in focus. You want to use as small of an aperature as you can while still maintaining enough depth of field to keep both eyes in focus. This will make the eyes the focal point while blurring the background. Also, you want the subjects face to fill most of the frame. It helps to use a longer focal length lens for this (say between 85 and 135mm film equivalent) so that you don’t have to be on top of the subject.

Practice, practice, practice! Buy a couple of magazines and look at the headshots. Try to duplicate the same effects that you see there!

No, it’s not bad at all if it only made some sense! Don’t give up, and if you need clarification on anything, please let me know.
