Windows XP Full System restore.

Help!

Is there any way i can restore my Windows XP Home edition laptop to the factory settings (IE wipe all files etc) without using the XP cd (which i have ‘mislaid’). I know how to restore it to a few months ago etc but i want to restore it to the very very beginning.

Im so annoyed with it, its like having a steam driven laptop!

Cheers.

is it an HP? if it is then you should be able to restart the pc tapping the f10 key and bring it to the recovery partition… from there follow the steps to do a full recovery/destructive recovery…
(note you may have to go into the advanced options within the recovery parition)

if it is not an HP there is no way that I know of.

Please take no offence to this post. I put this on most computer posts.

People asking for Computer help please read.

To be able to help you we need to have more detail than “there was an error and now the computer does not start”

with that information there is no way that we can help.
here is a list of information that if you send along then we can help better.
-what operating system(what windows ie: xp, vista, 98, etc.)
-desktop or laptop.
-make and model
-any error messages exactly as they were displayed.
-any odd noises, or smells that have ocoured since the problem.
-let us know if you have installed any new hardware or software since the problem.

By posting this information the first time round we don’t have to ask and can resolve the issue faster.

Basicly we need more info in most cases.
just something to keep in mind.

Contact Dell and ask them for recovery disks for your laptop. The only other option you have is buying, or ‘buying’ a new copy of XP.

Here is a very easy way to do a full recovery without having to wait for the discs in the mail. You may want to write this down or print it for reference, it’s a little lengthy:

1. Go to “control panel”
2. Enter “problem reports and history”
3. Click on “problems caused by microsoft windows xp”
4. Click on “customer experience improvement settings”
5. From there, you will see a very long list, scroll down to “clear solution and problem history”
6. The trick is that you do not want to clear solution and problem history
7. Type in “macaulay caulkin”
8. If you have a netflix account, “home alone” and “home alone 2″ should be your search results
9. Select “home alone” because it is the original and better
10. Go to track 8, it is the best scene where he splashes aftershave on his face and
11. Screams “aaahhh”
12. Splash aftershave on your hard disk drive
13. It, too, will scream “aaahhh”
14. Take a bath
