So I think I have a sleeping disorder.

:/ Well, that’s what I think but I’m unsure. I have looked at a few websites and have taken a couple of “tests” to see if I do in fact have a sleeping disorder. I’ll explain why I think I do:

I’ll have a great sleeping schedule for about a week. Going to bed by 10pm and waking by 8am. I don’t have a job or anything so I don’t really have anything to do. So around the end of the “good week” as I like to call it, I can’t get to sleep for the life of me. Probably cause I have done nothing all week and blahblah. I’m lazy, what can I say. So anyway, I end up staying up till, I don’t know, 1am. Watching T.V, going online, or even just lying in my bed all night. Then I end up sleeping later because I stayed up later. Like I said, I have nothing to do so I sleep in and then from there it’s a downward spiral. :/

So then the “bad week” starts. I get moody, end up staying up all night, sleeping all day. Ugh. It’s terrible. Should I go see someone about it or just get something to do during the day to wear me out so I go to bed at night??

I get where you’re coming from, its so easy to be distracted by everything, like the internet or tv, and stay up way to late. But it seems like this is a pattern for you, so it might be a good idea to just go talk to a doctor to get a professional opinion. But at the same time be careful with any meds that are meant to aid with sleep, because sometimes thats not necessary. Also, do you stay up all night because you keep thinking about everything? writing things down before i go to bed helps me a lot of the time because once i write it down i feel like it won’t get “lost” overnight and i can deal with it later. thats just a suggestion.
oh and one more thing, i sleep better after a work out. maybe try going for a run, or just somethng that can tire you out.
good luck

I definitely recommend exercise to help you sleep. I think it’s your lifestyle that’s making it hard to sleep rather than a disorder. I’d just avoid caffeine, wake up at the same time every day, and start exercising.

I do think about a lot while I am lying down but I have methods to clear my head to get to sleep.

I think i’m going to start exercising. That’s a good idea.

As far as waking up the same time everyday…it’s easier said than done. I can set a reoccuring alarm and still…I sleep. I turn it off, sleep for the 3-5 minutes and then when it goes off, I fall back to sleep. Meh. :/

Exercise will hopefully help. And I do drink a lot of pop. No more!

If you purchase a exercise Bike it iwll do the trick Also there is calming none caffinated teas in the GNC store ot supermarket or dollar stors for stress whihc is the major cause for restlessness. Meditation can help clear the chatter and clutter that builds up and nned to be disposed of or recycled into a different form.
I send you healthy energy for peaceful rest each time you wantto sleep well.

You are sleeping 10 hours a night, It is fairly typical for over-sleep to cause these things. (in addiction to what other’s said)

The more you sleep, the less quality of sleep you get. (you program your body that way) Therefore, your body starts requiring that much. But, the body really doesn’t function with that ammount of inactivity- so it naturally tries to correct the imbalance by keeping you up later. But, since you are getting a lower quality of sleep you are exhausted in the morning and sleep in (or nap, or simmilar) again messing up your sleep schdule.

The most I’ve ever heard sleep experts suggest (excluding babies) is 9 hours (and that is for teenagers) Many sleep experts point out that you can train yourself to sleep less- and get better sleep. However, if you aren’t going to put forth the effort it still would probably be better to limit the hours you sleep to 6-8
