I’m just on a roll with problems :S
Alright you guys, I have another problem-well my boyfriend does. He’s got a cough, a dry cough. He’s taking antibiotics and mucinex for the mucus he’s coughing up. He did have a fever and all, but now its just the cough. We’ve tried tea, vicks, cough med, cool mist vaporizors, hot towels, cold/flu meds, everything. its just a dry cough now, coughing up mucus.
What can we do to help him get it out easier? Is there a remedy that we can do? Something? Thank you

drink plenty of fluids … vitamin c and ecchinacea. keep the humidity in the room. and for heavens sake … a cough medicine … like Nyquil. Ask the pharmacist for a good cough medicine.
He’s been spitting like crazy, every few seconds, hacking it all up–its clear so thats good.
He’s been drinking a lot of bottled water and vitamin water. We’ve tried steam, and Nyquil pills, (a lot of cough meds make him throw up, I don’t know why–he’s always been that way).
He just says he’s sick of coughing. I’ve tried honey/lemon cough drops, tea all that.
He wants to go to a walk in clinic but we have no money until he goes back to work (suppose to Tuesday) and he’s from Canada–no insurance until we get married in Aug.
I’m looking online all over and I get these when I type in home remedy for dry cough:
“Take comfrey, hyssop, fenugreek, slippery elm, and thyme for mucus in the digestive and respiratory tracts and sinuses.”
Really-like who actually has all these things in their home??? lol
If he wants to go to the walk in clinic … I think you should go. Let them know the situation. Call around, there must be someplace that will treat him.
Hmmmm … there are medications available for vomiting. Go to the pharmacist, tell him/her the situation. Get their recommendations.
If you go to a clinic, they will give him probably codeine, which would help with his cough.
Let’s see … two options
clinic - worry about the money later. have to get a prescription and pay for it.
pharmacy - get vomiting medicine, give 1/2 hour before nyquil - nightime!! nyquil.
Keep the humidity on anyway, and the vicks. Lots of fluid.
Thanks, We don’t have a ride though-if he still has the cough by friday we can go.
do you still have the nyquil?
I wish I could get him more, but we have no money. All of our money goes to my mother for rent. He was short last week because he missed 3 days of work.
I am thinking he should really have some cough medicine … I was thinking maybe you could put it in food or something and maybe it would stay down better.
Honey, would your momma help you? I mean I would if my kids were here?
and how about good old Alcohol. Have any wiskey?
I just boiled water and put it in a mug and I have a bunch of robitussin lemon/honey cough drops that I dropped in there too, so he can breathe in the steam and then drink some. I also have Mentholatum Pointment aromatic vapors i got, It was by the vicks rub and its a rub as well. Do you think I should put some on his chest for the pain? If anything, the smell could help.
We don’t drink–my mother does but she goes out and drinks. We don’t keep anything here.
i don’t know if it will help.. but if u have any lemons and honey
make hot water and put lemon juice in it and honey to taste (so its not to sour) an drink it, it’ll help sooth the throat and clear up the mucus
hope he feels better soon

Looks like you are off line. Yes, use the rub on his chest. It does help.
you can treat the symptoms of the cough, but they are temporary solutions, a persistant cough can be a sign of other things. like acid reflux, allery drainage etc. so if all the other cough meds havnt worked then try otc meds like prilosec for acid reflux or any otc med for allergies. then of cources first chance that he is able to get to a doctor or clinic.
Thank you guys, he’s been waking up on and off all night coughing and hacking up mucus for atleast he’s getting a lot out. I put the rub on his chest and gave him a tylenol this morning for coughing, fever, multi-symptoms. He’s getting some sleep right now.
I have honey lemon tea that I’ve been giving him also.
