aversion
so i’ve been thinking (as usual) about why I waste so much time on the internet
yesterday i spent about 26 hours playing an Adobe flash-based RPG (woke up 3 PM Friday, went back to sleep 6 PM Saturday) and not getting any work done
So here’s what i think the cause may be: i think it may be an aversion to the complexity of the real world
in an RPG or some other online pursuit all the goals are clearly defined, there’s no ambiguity and the challenges are obvious
in the real world there is more ambiguity, a less direct link from actions to results… it’s harder to decide what to do
it’s not as if i literally have difficulty understanding the real world, i’m smart, but i think that subconsciously i don’t like the ambiguity or confusion in the real world and pursue virtual goals as an escape from that
why am i saying this here, what response do i expect? none in fact i’d rather i don’t get any
i just wanted to say it “out loud”
