Im afraid so.
its possible, not propable
I get panic attacks myself, mheppler. I asure you, even though they are frightening, they can not harm you. They’re scary, yes, and sometimes they can make you feel afraid, uncomfortable or as if you may be “going crazy” or even incrediably sick, all they are are just irrational feelings and thoughts that can’t harm you.
Drugs caused mine, and I’ve suffered from panic attacks severely for five years. My advice to you, as cliche and as stereotypical as it may sound, I’d say lay off them too. They’re bound to be what’s causing your panic attacks, and if you’re not careful, they may become worse. They’re not harmful no, but they can be very unpleasant, and some drugs can be the cause of Mental Illness such as Anxiety Disorder, (panic attacks) Bi-polar Mood Disorder, Depression, or Schitzophrenia, espeically with heavy and prolonged use.
I’m certainly not a doctor, but it seems to me that you may be experiancing a few of the bad side effects. See a doctor YOU trust, or perhaps try and get into a support group with people who experiance panic attacks as well. You wouldn’t believe how common they are. They can’t kill you, no, if that was the case, we’d have a decrease in surplus population. LOL.
Wow, I have had them too. I wrote a post about some of it. Try “The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook” . I went to a good counselor. I screened them by asking 3 questions. People do get over this.
I should dig for that counseling information and drop it to you. Basically there are 10 stages to a panic attack. There are ways to clip it before it gets into the “sweaty palm” stage and the point of no-return - you know, when your body runs away with you… Mine was that I believed all of my mother’s awful words and when I got quiet, on whatever plane or car I was in, I’d ‘believe’ her.
Nikko, not to be a bother, but is there any possible way I might be able to have a look at it too? If it’s no trouble.
sure, I’ll dig it up and post it here.
Thank you very much, nikko. I know this isn’t my post. But it may be very helpful.
A lot of peope struggle with this. It’s really tough.
if you could, i’d be long gone!
For now, I will try to do this one off the top of my head. I should to find that book for you and cite the author though.
At about stage 4, the sweaty palm stage -OUCH. It’s got to stop. Sometimes, when you get past that, then perhaps call a friend, chew a piece of gum…The idea is to get you out of your head. Medication can help in the interm to stop the reaction when it goes too far. When you get to the “OK, my skin is running away with me, I should go catch it” perhaps find people to ride that out with you. Some of the people I admire the most in the world have this problem too. We’ve talked about it. You are not awful for having this problem. It tends to come to the most sensitive. Keep a cell phone if you can.
Long-term, get help to what bothers you. Find counseling that respects your values, but understands your problems. Don’t be afraid to screen them out either. Pick a few questions and ask them who they are. Try to do things that return your mind- body connection. Run? , teach your body to relax too. I was told that the way to long-term stop this was to train your mind to create other nerual pathways. They were right :)
