Well the media Isn’t helping to much, its displays of 90lbs models, with flawless skin and all that stuff. That not real beauty, and the youth feed off the media. Thats one thing I can think of.

Two things that come to mind is if they are being bullied, or feeling left out/neglected. I would think that low self esteem would be come from a sense of not being in control, not being useful, or not getting attention. But this is only a suggestion, I personally have little experience in this area.

Parents that ridicule them. Not having people build them up or compliment them or make them feel special.

A father who didnt care…
A mother that say nothing but the bad…
Many factors worth considering.

Sometimes its just part of growing into oneself and learning to accept and respect who we are and what we are capable of. I had a very low self esteem as a child. I was terribly anxious and shy and honestly never felt I fit in. My parents were encouraging, and I did have friends who could be encouraging… yet I was quite sensitive. When I was bullied it did have an impact on my self esteem, but for the most part it was a feeling I carried within me well into my college years. It can be biochemical too …part of our brain chemistry. I remember as a child telling a babysitter I had a headache one time. Her reply was, “Children don’t get headaches.” Well, yes they do …and they deal with depression as well - perhaps not on the same social level, but their world is just as emotional, complicated and confusing as our adult world at times.

there are probably many reasons.. however with my own daughter… she suffered from low self esteem due to being a little slower than most children.. she was born with hemotomas on her head which i found out was due to a traumatic delivery… and traumatic delivery can cause brain damage… my daughter is smarter than me..lol.. however, she takes a little longer in learning certain things.. such as math and spelling.. and she always felt out of place at school.. i finally fought the school to get the help that she needed and then kids would pick on her because she needed the help.. so bullying is another reason… although she is 14 now.. and understands.. she has passed to point of feeling negative… and is doing good as of today… also.. she suffers from ocd.. which is obsessive compulsion disorder.. which also causes low selfesteem… have you talked to any teachers in school?
