What do you need…. no wait what to you already have ?
nothing, i’ve been recording in my teachers studio recently, all i have is me and my guitar :)
Guitar and amp
Microphone
Audio interface
Software
Studion monitors
That will get you real good guitar sound. what else do you need ? I bought a workstation/keyboard to provide drums, and other sounds. Will you need that to ?
ok, i have a guitar… and an amp and a keyboard, so all i need is studo moniters audio interferance and software?
So you have;
-guitar/amp
-keyboard… will it provide you with beats you want ?
Then to get a wide range or tone from you guitar (Distorted tone, smooth and clean) your going to need a good mic.
The interface isn’t that big of a deal since its only you using it and not like 10 xlr inputs. So go for a decent one.
The monitors are important, to reproduce the sound an close as possable you’ll want to get some pretty good ones.
software is very important, most of the time it comes with the interface.
yer, my keyboard is quite good, i might need a better amp though…..
kk, it all sounds very technical, but i get it so far :)
so how much would all the stuff i don’t have cost?
and are there any specifications as to the type of place i have to set it up in?
Is your amp small or somthing ?, you know some big bands only use a little 15 watt fender, its just the software that will help you get a MASSIVE sound out of it using compressors, equalization, and active dynamics. So you can make with a small amp just a Good mice is very important.
Mic- before I got mine EVERYONE directed me to these for ALLAROUND guitar- sennheiser MD421(II), [$350]
sure SM57 (very usfull for all), [$100]
sure sure SM7B (broadcasting mic) [$350]
sennheiser e609 [$110]
sennheiser e906 (new version) [$180]
(I spent about 6 months of reserch before I bought my stuff)
I went with the SM7B- Its a broadcasting mic that is desigined for all enviroments (radio voice, news, live recordings, ect…) So that was great you can do almost everythink with that one, the reproduction is remarkable.
The interface hardware is what ever you want, the software is what I think is important
I say get whatever just make sure its a decent and good software. I have a
Lexicon Omega [$200] its the biggiest or the 3 Alpha, Lambda, Omega… I have a lot of extra inputs and plugs, I only need 2 (keyboard and mic), the alpha and lambda are cheaper since they only have a few inputs and stuff.
Monitors are very important, I’d go with a trusted brand like MAKIE, Kustom, berringer.
I got Berringer ms20’s, very inexpensive [$110] (make sure you get a pair, some are just sold single) These are very compact and are surprisingly powered, They reproduce sound prety **** well. Just go for ACTIVE MONITORS, passave your going to have to buy a seprate power supply and all, ive heard both i see not much diff.
so i’ll go avarage lets see
Mic-$300
Interface-$250
Monitors- $250
Other (boomstand, cords, other…)-$120
about about $950 or $1000… yeah its much but you can get all the lowest stuff that still good for like half.
yer, it’s cheaper than i thought, my amp is a 30 watt, thats really good if it’s big enough…
ok, i’l go down to allens (my music shop) and check it all out…
thanx so much, it was so good of u to take so much time :)
thanx again :)

No problem at all, I will gladly take time off to help my fellow musician.
P.S Keep a close eye out on the hardware, you might buy a mic thats a condensor and they need external power so you have to get a pre amp for the mic, and keep you cabes in mind If the interface only has inputs, get a XLR- male jack. just make sure everything is compatable.
Good luck
kk, compatable, i’ll say that to the music guy…
thanks so much :)

Count me in for support :)
hey niko :)
hi :) On your side all the way
“You can count on me to “. (like alliance being formed in a movie)
:) awsum
we need to make cards for your fan club :)
Ha Ha Ha, sounds like a plan.
god, been through that drama. Then it becomes how to get them to leave you alone.
My friend built a small studio in 1/2 of my 3rd car garage for less than $500 in materials and built it himself from the frame to the soundproof booth within the studio. The musical equipment is another story and varies, but he got one thing at a time and is now running a full on studio - for artists who join his group he charges nothing at this time as long as they sign to join the ‘family’ — check him out: www.youngconz.com or www.myspace.com/youngconzmuzic
