I want to get an industrial piercing.

Several questions:
Any advise?
How long does it take to heal?
I suppose the most important question is: I’m a student nurse, what would you think if I were to treat you and I had evidence that I had this piercing (Ie the holes, as hopefully I’ll get it in time for it to heal before placement). If it hadn’t healed or I chose to wear it on the ward would it make you, as a patient, feel any different? Uncomfortable? Scared? Impressed?
I’m female as well, I don’t know if that would have any connotations for you…

If you don’t know if you’ll be able to keep it, I wouldn’t reccomend getting it. That, and from my own piercings, I can tell you that getting your cartilage pierced hurts like hell, and keeps hurting for a long time. It’s not something you’ll want to have to do over if you have to take it out and the holes close up.

I am a nursing assistant, in aged care mostly, and my colleagues and I between us have nose piercings, eyebrow piercings, tragus piercings, I also have the upper cartillage of my ear pierced a couple times. Oh, and I have tattooes, which are visible through my clothing sometimes. None of the peope I look after have ever even mentioned it apart from one lady who said, “I like all your earrings dear, so much nicer than just one”. The cartillage piercing took several months to heal, I would suggest instead of piercing one rod all the way through you put a sleeper in each hole…. sleeper holes heal quicker, and sleepers will look less noticeable. Your piercings wouldnt make me feel any differently about you as a nurse. I dont much like that piercing, but what other people wear doesnt phase me. From working in the nursing field, and having been a hospital patient I would say that piercings are common in health care staff, and so long as you are professional in your work practices then people in general dont really care. They generally go to hospital to heal, not make judgement on their carers.

Thats really cool to hear! I’m still gonna get the single bar though as it’s cheaper! lol
I’m hopefully gonna get it done the last day of placement so it has the longest poss time to heal before my next placement so I could take it out and mayve use sleepers if necessary.

Xeno is right about it hurting tho, you wont want to sleep on your side for a long time. Good luck with it.

Umm I’m a female who also wants to get the industrial piercing and later become a nurse :) I don’t suggest you get the bar first i suggest you get 2 14g (or whatever gauge your getting) rings it helps them heal faster. Also, I wouldn’t be scared I would think it was cool. My brothers gf has many piercings and is a nurse this doesnt seem to scare patients at all if brings up good conv.

first off im male, but you gave me some pretty useful advice so i feel ive got to return the favour. a lot of girls i know have got those piercings and they havent had any problems with them at work or anything because you can cover them up with your hair, but i dont see any reason to think parients wouldnt like it. in my opinion, they look fit too lol thanks for your comment
