Get your XP CD, make a copy of your Documents file and other programs that you want to save. Then at boot up press any key when asked Boot to CD then when asked to install Click delete C: then folow the instructions on formating your HDD. Done XP is now reinstalled on your PC Hope this helps :-)

You might check with Microsoft. They are offering a special downgrade disk with some of the new computers. Why don’t you wait a few weeks, Microsoft is set to release SP1 which should stabilize the OS.

Good luck ron

I have a HP Pavilion laptop/notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium (Multi-lang), biggest problem to downgrade is that HP and other seems to have an agreement with Microsoft to not release drivers for Windows XP.

So start looking for drivers for your hardware before you do all exampels here, and my tips is download and burn a CD -”Hiren’s BootCD” v9.0 or later and do all things with this CD…

Hiren’s BootCD 9.3 - www.hiren.info
http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

+ Partition Magic Pro 8.05
Best software to partition hard drive

- Remove [Partition]
- Format with [NTFS] Windows XP version…, make it [Primary]
- Then you also can use some freeware tools to make a new Windows XP CD with your PC’s hardware drivers included, lot of info about this around on the net…
- Use Windows XP CD to install Windows on your PC…

Good Luck !!!

If you want to go with partitioning there is a free partition program called PARTITION LOGIC. I have used it several times and it works fine. You can Google for it.

I am fighting with a Toshiba Satellite A200 downgrade right now. We bought these laptops for my company 6 months ago thinking that we could easily downgrade to winxp, but we were very wrong. I called Toshiba in hopes that they were releasing drivers for these laptops for winxp, but they said that they would not be. As I have been checking back at the Toshiba website, slowly enough, some of the devices are finally having winxp compatible drivers. We put winxp on these laptops, and our biggest problem has been a flickering display. It is not very noticeable, but if you are typing while the laptop flickers, keystrokes are lost, which is a tremendous hassle. I have been looking for a fix, and so far my only lead is the bluetooth. It seems that the toshiba bluetooth stack for windows causes this issue. I installed just the microsoft bluetooth stack, and I have yet to see my display flicker. My fingers are crossed that this fixes the problem. The only laptop of the same type that kept vista is my laptop, which surprisingly enough, has had no problems. My thought on this is that it is just better off to leave vista on these laptops.

I have rolled the Toshiba A200 back to XP, so it’s possible.

The Hard Drive is a sata drive. The XP Install disc doesn’t include the sata driver, so when you run install it wont find the drive. I slipstreamed the sata driver into the xp disc using nlite. Google nlite for how to do that.

The driver that you need is an Intel controller, which can be downloaded from toshiba - you need - “ACHI XP F6 Install Tool”

once you have XP installed, there are still some challenges in getting all the drivers. I ended up changing hardware id’s in some of the older drivers to get them to install on xp, which can be risky, but I think Toshiba has released a heap of XP drivers now, due to popular demand.
