Recent requests for the ability to edit or spell-check posts.
If you use Firefox as your browser, your posts, replies and shouts can be automatically spell-checked as you type. I am sure a number of folks already knew this, but for those who didn’t, hopefully this will make posting with fewer spelling errors a bit easier.

No, I didn’t know that!
I am DL it now as I type this, sheesh.
I have the worst spelling ever so I hope it is as good as you say.
I will thankyou for it after~ if it works :P
Hehe… when I saw the headline I was gonna suggest the exact same thing. I would also love if the Firefox spell check would work in the chat, but it doesn’t :´(
I don’t like the idea of a user being able to delete their own replies… that opens up a whole new category of problems for the admins and us mods.
I’ve used Firefox for a long time…and it does a good job with spellcheck, among other things. There are a few designers out there that still aren’t checking compatibility with anything other than Internet Explorer, so keep that handy for occasional use.
I have firefox, but usually just use IE, so this information will come in handy, Thank You!
ok, finally got that firefox on, it is a bit different to what I am used too and the font has changed to.
How do you get it to spell check then or is it automatic?
It is automatic :) Similar to Word, it will underline anything spelled incorrectly in red.
oh ok lol thanks, so how should I test it?
Just spell something wrong?
I also suggest you get the “answers” plugin for it. That way you can check meanings of words and who certain persons were just by pressing alt+rightclick over the word/person/place etc. it’s a very cool tool.
Well I just tested it and it let me spell wrong, so what have I done wrong?
Nope not doing it and I checked the tab, it says i have spell checker as I type but I don’t Grrr

When you type in before you press the send button, hover your over any words that are underlined and right click.
I don’t have any words underlined to be able ro rightclick
I don’t know lol, give me a word spelt wrong that I can do.
Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced and look if it under “Browsing” is checked in the box for “check my spelling as I type”
yep that was checked, I don’t know why it won’t work…
I am pee’d off now
It works for me here. *shrugs*
I love Firefox. It’s the only reason I rarely have typos. :P
I have no idea why it won’t work for me, it is all enabled so i should be abe to use it
Well i have gone through everything and it stil doesn’t want to work for me, so think I am just going to uninstall it…
Shame I liked the idea of haveing a spell checker on this site :(
Not only should it spell check, it’s also a superior and more secure browser, so you might want to reconsider uninstalling it… or not… up to you
Well I only wanted it for the spell checker and it wasn’t doing it so no point keeping it as it would only clog up my comp, so got rid of it, still don’t understand why it wouldn’t work O_o
Thanks for your help though :)
i got Google toolbar for Internet explorer just go to Google download the toolbar and its automatic while you type it its wrong it underline in colooooor just cecking…..
Of course we know this, but people in suffering and pain and misery aren’t going to facilitate things for us by spell-checking.
If you guys want this ability to work in chat you need to right click the text box you type into and click “Spell check this field.”
better, you can make it defualt to chat like i did. type in you addrresse bar
about:config
now filter find “layout.spellcheckDefault”
set the value to “2″
there you go. now chat will always be spellchecked, without haveing to right click every time.
thank you thank you *bows*
For the record, auto spell check also works in Apple’s Safari 3 web browser. It would be nice, though, if there was an easy way to add quick HTML for italics and boldface type.
Sorry, but I would also like to say that, google toolbar has a spell checker and that works with chat and all.
