I have the co-worker from hell!

It’s almost as if she goes out of her way to annoy me. She comes in late EVERY morning. And from the very moment she gets in the door she starts talking to herself. EVERYTHING that she does through out the day she feels the need to announce out loud. What she’s doing, what’s printing, what she’s reading, when she has to go to the bathroom. I can’t take it!! And she always complains about being hungry. She says it at least 15 times a day. However she’s ALWAYS eating! She weighs like 500 pounds (I’m not trying to be mean at all, I feel sorry for her actually) and she’s always eating fast food. EVERY MEAL! And it’s not just like a burger. It’s like 2 hamburgers, chicken nuggets and some tacos…Then she complains about how her stomach hurts so badly and how she’s fat! I wonder why…

Here at my job we get a half hour for lunch. We only have 8 employees, so we all have to take our lunches at separate times. She leaves to get her lunch at 12:30 and doesn’t return until 12:55 or so, then sits at her desk and eats until 1:30. That’s not how it’s supposed to work. Not only does she take extra time, but she eats every single bit with her mouth open. It is so gross and distracting. I’ve literally sat at my desk before and plugged my ears for her entire lunch because it’s so disgusting. I know it may be childish, but it makes me want to vomit. And EVERY time she takes a drink of something she lets out a big “KAAAAAAAAAH” followed by an “ahhhhh”. I can’t take it! You have no idea how unbearable it is to sit next to that ALL DAY LONG!!

She never does any work. She’s so backed up she’ll never ever be caught up. However she uses all her time to surf the net and watch movies and videos and listen to the same **** U2 song over and over and OVER again! But as soon as you ask her a question or for help she’ll literally yell at you, “I’m too busy right now! I just don’t have the time!” Her answer for everything is “Tomorrow”. Her and I are the only ones who answer the phones and they ask that we answer by the second ring. Some times I’m away from my desk or really busy doing something, and I’ll see her look at the phone to see if it’s a call or a fax…but she doesn’t answer it. Most of the time she’s on the net and I know for a fact because the fax, copy machine and credit card machine are all behind her desk but facing her desk so you can see her monitor. She does take personal calls though, all day long.

Any time she makes a joke she’ll laugh and laugh and laugh and then repeat the joke the whole day. I don’t know if she’s seeking attention, but I’ve trained myself to not even acknowledge her anymore. But she just says it all day long anyway. Every time she does answer the phone she laughs at people, even when I’m sure it’s not funny. They’ll ask how much something is and she’ll start busting up. I just don’t get it! Another thing is that our office is pretty small. Sometimes she’ll stand in the way and not let you by. I don’t know if this is some kind of joke or not, but I have work to do and places to go and she just stands right in the middle of the walk way and won’t move!! There is literaly no room to get passed her. It pisses me off!

I must say, though, the thing that gets to me the most is that she talks to me like I’m stupid. She still seems to think that I have no idea what I’m doing around here even though I pull more weight than her. I deal with orders and she seems to think she needs to tell me what company is ordering and what they are ordering as if I don’t know how to read an order. Any time she tells me something she repeats it at least 5 times as if I didn’t hear the first time. Some times she’ll take an order over the phone (when she does answer it) and because she says EVERYTHING out loud, I already know what it says by the time she brings it to me, but she still repeats it - 5 times.

She is incredibly selfish. We often have group lunches for birthdays and what not, and she always gets a say on what we eat. She orders way more than anyone else and then wants everyone else’s food too. One of my other co-workers brought in candy for us to share, but she decides who gets what so that she can get everything she likes before anyone else can have it. For example, we had group lunch yesterday and my boss passed around a box of See’s Candy and apparently I took the one she wanted and she ******* about it for like 20 minutes. I’m so tired of it! She’s like 50 years old. WHEN IS SHE GOING TO GROW UP???

She gets away with whatever she wants and the bosses do nothing, but I make the tiniest mistake and I get my head chewed off….I just don’t know what to do! I just want to work in peace!!

Anyone have any advice on how I should deal with her??

It’s obvious that the situation is affecting your job performance. I would ask to speak to a decision maker and explain what is going on. You have to be really, really careful to make it about you and not about her–so careful, in fact, that you should be prepared to lose your job over it. If you aren’t willing to risk that, then you have to shut up and endure it. Make yourself so valuable to the company that they can’t afford to let you go. Then you can be a little more vocal.

Its sounds like you have tried everything else try prayer! I have had problems very close to your in my office. I have been pretty successful in “praying away” people that have really made me uncomfortable. God knows that your not the problem and that you are unhappy. I have prayed away 3 to 4 co-workers. I started praying, and they started getting fired and finding other jobs!

Okay, so this spring you trap a bear, a big one, and it’ll be hungry ’cause it’ll have just woken up from hibernating. So you trap this bear and you bring it in a van to work. It’ll be best if you can bring it during your lunch break or after you’ve had to miss a morning for a doctor’s appointment or something so that she’ll already be there and it won’t mess everything up and eat everything and not be hungry by the time she gets in to the office. Okay. So we’ve got you and the hungry bear and this irritating woman.

I think you know what happens next.

It may be wrong of me, but if it was me I would make up some little chocolates, and fill them with laxettes and leave them on her desk.

That sounds funny hehehe, but sorry I bet it’s not funny for you because you work with this person I feel so sorry for you. I bet your anoyed by her everytime she talks or says a word. You should probably try talking to her and ask her why she does what she does, you can probably ask her ” why arnt you doing your work? you should do it now so you wont have to worry about it” try to be nice but I guess in every job you will find someone you don’t like but I hope you don’t go crazy on her some day, best of luck :)

Get used to it because this is the future work force. Obese, adolescent, spoiled apathetic, men and women. You need to say something. nothing like saying something to get things going. One question though, is she letter ‘B’ fat as well? You know she can add the ‘B” sound to any word even in the absence of the letter? Like if Droopy Dog has cotton in his mouth and sausage lips. I have a woman who sits next to me who acts like Rosanne Barr and talks exactly like that. *BARF!*

I wish it was easy to get another job,but it shouldn’t have to be that way.
I also work with a woman from the “hot place.” I feel your pain. It sounds like there is nothing to do but buy her a dozen of very high calorie dounuts every day and hope she dies.

I have a very similar coworker but this 1 takes others food out of our staff fridge like its her god given right. 2 cut a long story short 1 day i brought in a block of chocolate. But i had changed the chocolate for Laxettes. Of course she finally took some & then had the nerve 2 say she didn’t like them! A few hrs later she went home sick. Didn’t see her again 4 a few days. Then when she came back she tried more! Then off sick again! No1 ever told her what they actually were but she has never taken anyone elses food again!

I am so there with you. My coworker talks to herself all day AND laughs out loud to herself AND talks to her husband, adult sons and girlfriends almost hourly AND she snacks ALL day long and after every snack I get to hear her have indigestion for at least a half hour after she eats AND she cracks/pops her gum AND she sprays stinky perfume even though she knows some of us have severe allergies. And the most annoying part is she doesn’t even belong in our department, she’s squatting because they don’t have a place for her. My solution is EARPHONES while listening to Heavy Metal or Opera.
