Thought help: Well, I guess I’m scared. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

Well, I guess I’m scared.

Of the afterlife and all that.
I don’t believe in any of the ideas of organized religion, but the thought of just blipping out of existance is…terrifying. I don’t know why, maybe in some ways it’s a relief, but it seems so scary to me. I know people are going to say ‘don’t worry about death, just think about now’ but people can’t just think about now. At least, I can’t.
The idea of no kind of afterlife at all seems like the most likely answer, but the scariest to me. I’m worried that when I die, if there is no blipping out of existance, I’l be like, disapointed, yknow? Like “wow, this God and afterlife thing is supposed to be spectacular” I dunno really why I’m posting this, cause I don’t see how anyone can really help.

the one thing about god that people have to realize in your situation is he loves us even when we dont believe in him.it is his desire that we come to him, that we accept him and love him just as much as it is our hope and desire that thier is a god and he loves us.all you have to do is step foreward in blind faith and make a choice, because we have free will,to love god and live how he wants us to.its not easy from a human perspective, but i know god loves me,and i know where im going when i die.we are only pilgrims on our way home in this life, and god has given us the map home.its not easy, and there are many hardships and trials, but he is with us at every step we make

Well kijewskijaso, what do you believe will happen when you die? Go to Heaven? But if Heaven is how the Christians believe, with the clouds and gold castles and everything…wouldn’t that just get plain boring after awhile? Especially for all of eternity. That’s what I mean about being disappointed.

I’ve had several dreams — and a few ‘close’ experiences — that have eased my anxiety about ‘death.’ Death is an arbitrary marker, like turning 40. You don’t really experience it, just something you look at and realize what happened. A permanent state of being as you experience it now would be worse than any imagined hell. Would you like to be as you are now for all eternity? Shakespeare called death the “undiscovered country.” On a more mundane level, you experience ‘death’ each night, losing complete conscious awareness of what you think of as your life. You have died a thousand times over, and all that really means is that you have gone in and out of conscious awareness of particular surroundings, moving from the real to dream-time effortlessly and without pain. Death is nothing more than a change of circumstances.

How old are you?
Have you ever had a confession of faith?
If so, which?

the discriptions of heaven are only as we can process them in our mind with relation to what we know.we will be created new, like something we cant even comprehend as humans just as we cant realy comprehend what heaven will be like.look at how many different lifeforms and substances there are on earth.i couldnt possibly imagine how much eternal life in heaven has to offer

I would reccomend this book called “Life After Life” by Dr. Raymond Moody. He did a study on random people who have died and come back to life and shared their experiences. I’d also reccommend going to the library and getting books on the subject. They aren’t completely religious; the subjects didn’t say they were any certain religion.

heh, I don’t know if one can fully understand what heaven is like until actually going there… if it does exist… the bible doesn’t say anything about clouds and gold castles… but it says there is lots to do… and that you’d be more than happy… could you be disappointed with just being happy without any suffering??? don’t get me wrong… I don’t know if there is a heaven either… this is just what I know from studying the subject a little in a church I go to… however… I’m not a Christian (yet, or at least I don’t think so)… as for speculating for what comes after death… the Buddha said that he doesn’t know himself either and that it is one of those questions he could never answer… thinking about death can become the best teacher though… a way to motivate yourself… “the difference between life and death is only one breath”… death could come at any time… at any instant… and one should live in a way that reflects that… there are many uncertainties in life (at least to me)… actually… i’m not sure about anything… so i don’t know what you want to take from this… keep me posted :)

you wouldnt get bored in heaven because all earthy troubles are taken away, its just something you have to experience once youre there. If you truely are scared you might as well choose God because the truth is if you dont you WILL wind up in a place where you will never feel happy, whole, content, or anything good for eternity. Its hard to grasp, but hows that for bored?

true, you would want to believe in god for fulfillment and salvation, but shoot if this guy wants to be happy after this life then thats what hes gotta do. it sucks that christianity seems so all-or-nothing but it is

It’s okay. I know how you feel. Whenever I think of that, I think, “Well, if we’re all going to die, and we all have different religions, then according to different religions someone’s going to Heck no matter what.”

16. I went to a semi-catholic public school when I was in elementary, but by that time the government was practically outlawing religious teachings in public schools, so all we really got was a few classes where we got to watch cartoons based on Bible stories (Noah’s Ark, Moses) and on special Wednesdays we’d go to a church next to the school and get ash put on our foreheads. At the time none of us identified any of these things as religious activities, just fun stories and things we got to do instead of math :P My parents were actually extremely furious when they found out that the school had done that much
So no, I don’t think I’ve had any confessions of faith.

I think it’s something you have to take on faith… much like your idea of everything going in a blip… but truth is… we just don’t know… what really happens we can only guess (at least I think so)… of course there are the ideas of heaven, reincarnation, vanishing to a blip… but where’s the proof of any of those… there are stories that try to prove… resurrection of Jesus and him rising to heaven, along with messengers of God… highly enlightened Buddhist practitioners in the past have so much insight into life that they can choose how they will reincarnate… hmmm… I’m not giving you much of an answer… I wish I was of faith to give you something more decisive… it’s where you have faith… but does what you have faith in make it true??? then is truth specific to each person??? you can have faith in a lot of things being the path… how can there be more than one truth on a specific subject… it’s like saying 2+2=4, and 5, and 6 depending on the person doing it… which in some cases it is… but i’m not going there… :)

I think you might find these sites interesting….
If you have any questions, feel free to write me…

Personally,as a Believer, I do not fear death in fact
I take GOD at HIS WORD, what HE has in store for us. As you
may or may not know, Adam and Eve turn their authority
over to satan and CHRIST’S, Death and Resurrection took it back.

So when a person is born in this carnal world, he or she
must confess their belief, trust and loyalty over to GOD’S
SON. By doing this, we are excommunicated from the god
of this world’s club. (automatically a member at birth)

GOD will re-establish what HE meant for us to enjoy WITHOUT satan
around to trip us up!!!
