My darn cloudy pregnancy brain!

I am pretty sure I have either lost some brain cells or they are clouded over with pregnancy hormones!

I knew if I removed the plastic covering the soup bowl right after the microwave went off, without taking it out with pot holders first and being careful to remove it at the proper angle that I would burn myself. But what did I do?

Yes, I got a killer steam burn on my hand. Ouccchhhhhh!!!!!! I ran it under cold water, held an ice pack on it, applied burn gel to it and covered it. 12 hours later, it still burns - not quite as bad but darn it!!

So any suggestions? I did read somewhere that the only other thing to do is cover it and wait for it to blister and peel. Nice thought! :/

OH! …and sorry I haven’t been around much. Having a miserable 1st trimester. They tell me it is supposed to be better soon so I’m hoping! *knock on wood, cross fingers, and all that other superstitious stuff I don’t believe in*

Gods cruel irony suggests that during the 1st trimester, you’re not much interested in your husband. But in the 3rd trimester, you’ll be VERY interested in him. Or so says Dr. Drew.

*Is glad my wife is not pregnant*

Oh PS…try aloe gel. It works wonders on sunburns.

I’ve already told him that if he doesn’t leave me through this then I know he’ll be with me forever! LOL! Of course, I knew that before but I did want him to know that I recognize that he has been doing a lot more taking care of me then I have been taking care of him. He’s one in a million!

You could try Noxema or they have some second skin type stuff you can buy over the counter, its like a gel but you cut it in to strips.

Sounds like you did the right thing. You need to keep it cool (so more cold water can’t hurt - and will help with the pain). It will blister over (the blister will be filled with fluid trying to protect and repair your skin). Take mild pain killers for the pain (providing your doctor is happy for you to take them while you are pregnant). And don’t worry, even the sharpest person sometimes has silly moments! You wont do it again though, will you! Good luck with your pregnancy.

Sis! You’ve been away for too long. Glad you’re doing somewhat alright though, besides getting burnt. I believe you’re doing everything that you need to be doing to relieve the burn, nothing will speed up the process more. Hehe, speaking of clouded brains, my sleep logic really got to me this morning when I poured buttermilk in my cereal, instead of, you know, regular milk. Yuk. Remind me to never eat half asleep ever again. By the way, I reported the person above, hopefully he or she will be dealt with swiftly by the administrators. I hope you feel much better, soon. :)

During her 2nd tri, my mom broke her arm by slipping on the kitchen floor while mopping. Must be the hormones…

Thanks everyone. I think it is doing much better today. I do have a blister forming on the finger but the pain seems to be going now as long as I don’t forget to keep the water cooler when washing my hands.

I did end up calling my Doc’s office and telling them what the silly pregnant woman did. They told me I should be ok and to put some cooling gel on it. They told me to keep it covered for a few days with this “burn wrap”. It is neat stuff. It is like a cotton mesh so it is covered but can breath too. I can also take Tylenol (acetaminophen)for any pain but I seem to be ok now.

I take acetaminopen for headaches anyway. They are suspecting that I am developing migraines now. (Never had those before) I guess it is not unusual for migraines to start during pregnancy.

I tell ya I have the track record of not only getting all the symptoms but taking everything to the extreme and getting the worse case! :/

Again, thank you all and I miss you guys! *hugs*

Aww, pregnancy is hard. I’ve recently had a baby (well 8 weeks recently!). You do get laxadazicle, its all the hormones surging through your body. You can take painkillers whilst pregnant but only paracetamol. As for the burn, if it blisters try popping it but i shouldn’t think it would! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

Hey I’m coming in late but I hope that burn feels better! Don’t worry about the cloudy pregnancy brain - us women are usually always a step ahead of the game so you’re definately entitled to 9 months of fuzzy thinking!

As per the migraines, I suffer from them myself. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to help.

Take care out there and congratulations on the upcoming baby! How far along are you?
