Sleep troubles.

I saw a sleep specialist and she said I have sleep apnea, and my brain probably wakes up multiple times in the night, so the quality of my sleep isn’t good. However, she can runs the tests for treatment unless I fork over 2000-4000 bucks, so is there any cheaper, natural way to deal with this?

Your doctor should be able to treat you for sleep apnea. It needs proper treatment. For those who don’t know it means you stop breathing in the night and your body has to wake you up in order to re-start your breathing. (Here’s the science part: The excess tissues of the soft palate coupled with the narrowing due to muscle relaxation during sleep cause a stoppage of breathing (choking) which can last for ten seconds or more till the body reacts, usually with a snort, as the soft palate is forcibly pushed off the breathing tubes. This may happen a few times a night. In severe cases, sufferers stop breathing up to 100 times an hour while sleeping, often for over a minute at a time. Scarier still, many people are unaware of the problem. The resulting respiratory depression causes decreased oxygenation of the blood and serious consequences such as raised blood pressure or a stroke can result.)

A friend of mine has sleep apnea and has to sleep connected to an oxygen machine. She sleeps much better now. If you are carrying excess weight, losing some could also help as there is less pressure on your lungs. Good luck!
