Math problem.

So I recently came across this math problem: http://thinkzone.wlonk.com/MathFun/Tr...

Maths has never been my strong point, in fact its been three years since I studied maths and that was a a fairly basic level. Since then, unfortunately, I have forgotten everything I know.

So, how does one solve he above?

its actually fairly easy, solve the angle 50 for the triangle closet to the bottom. The aqnglke opposite that must be the same.then 2 x50=100 for the 2 angles.subtract from 360. you get 260.Divide that by two. so easch angle for the two side triangles is 130.then the ;left triangle equals 40 then cuz thts whats left out of 180.then 30 for the right side triangle.the middle triangle has a 90 degree angle, plus 50, subtrat the total from 180 and there ya go : )

Now, I have got that far myself.

While that works, can be be sure it is a right angle? I mean it *does* look roughly like one, but if it was, surly it would be marked?

LOL, it does work, but still, I would have thought there would have been some fancy mathy way of working it out - rather than just assuming that it is a right angle….

solve for the entire triangle. 60+20=80 70+10=80 80+80=160 180-160=20 thats the topmost angle.now the 40 degrees in the bottom left triangle converts over to the top triangle because it is linear point angle. 40+20=60 180-60=120 nw the entire side line angle equals 180 ,so minus 120 and 30 and bam. 30 is x

You see, the hint on the website says the following:

website wrote:
To solve the problem, you will need to draw a few more lines inside the triangle.

You will need to do more than merely adding and subtracting angles.

The solution has more steps than you might expect.

Just so you now, I do have actual university work which is a lot more important , but for the first time in my life I genuinely want to know the solution to a math problem.

The answer is x=20, though I admit to help from my math-whiz brother. (It’s genetic, you see.)
Geometry is my absolute worst math subcategory, so I’m darning Ross to Heck.
