Hi, I just started having problems with my computer about a month ago.

But since then, they’ve gotten 10x worse. Starting with it saying: “Microsoft Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close” and the screen freezing until I reboot.

Another thing that i’ve encountered is It wont let me do a full system restore, whenever I press F11 on startup (gateway restore) it gives me the BSOD. (Blue screen of death) I tried doing a normal System Restore to an earlier date. But it says “Your computer could not be restored to ::Date:: No changes have been made to your computer.

Then randomly out of nowhere, It doesnt let me use my direct connection to the internet! Right now I’m on a wireless connection to my router that should be giving my computer DIRECT connection.

So please, if anyone can spot a simple solution to my dilemma, I’m all ears :).

I think it would be winDOZE XP. Which is VERY rubbish. Get Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com).

Sounds like a virus. Ubuntu can’t get windows viruses.

Please take no offence to this post. I put this on most computer posts until it can be added to the help bot.

People asking for Computer help please read.

To be able to help you we need to have more detail than “there was an error and now the computer does not start”

with that information there is no way that we can help.
here is a list of information that if you send along then we can help better.
-what operating system(what windows ie: xp, vista, 98, etc.)
-desktop or laptop.
-make and model
-any error messages exactly as they were displayed.
-any odd noises, or smells that have ocoured since the problem.
-let us know if you have installed any new hardware or software since the problem.

By posting this information the first time round we don’t have to ask and can resolve the issue faster.

Basicly we need more info in most cases.
just something to keep in mind.

Could be a problem with device drivers , hardware or software . This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html

Go to http://download.com and get these programs. AD-Aware, Spybot search and destroy, CCleaner and also if you dont have it Antivirus programs like Avast or AVG. Install these programs and run them regulary. This will keep your system clean and running properly. These programs are free and Download.com is a part of CNET (the site that your posting on right now). Hope this helps :-)

If you have xp, a repair install will likely fix your problem. Insert your xp disc and reboot your computer (ensure your cd rom drive is set first in the boot order if it does not boot to the disc - enter bios, usually by pressing f2, backspace or something similar when boot begins and set it). It will ask you whether to continue setup or enter repair console; continue setup. Accept the license agreement; when setup detects the existing Windows installation, tell it you want to perform a repair install. The process should take half an hour to 45 minutes; you will lose any Windows updates you downloaded as all system files have been rewritten but you will keep everything else.

When you say when trying to press F11 on start-up, I’m guessing that your Operating System is resident in a partition on your system instead of on a CD. That was quite common with Win2000. Also, from what I understand, that you can not use it to rebuild your system. Have you checked your disk for errors?

It sounds very much like you have either a virus or a Trojan but, it also sounds like your system is still functional. I suggest that you go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and scan your system. The scan is free and it dose remove problems without buying any product. After your system is cleaned up I suggest that you download some more permanent resident virus and spyware that previous posters have suggested, if you don’t already have them.

How would you normally connect to your high speed internet? Can you reload the software that you originally used?

Actually the best way is to copy the needed files to another computer if you have only one local disk like “C”. But if you have “D” Disk also better copy there everything from your desktop and My documents. And reinstall you Windows with formatting. This is the best and fast version to know is it software problem or not. But at first find All drivers for your computer. If you are new in this just look in some How tos. you can use just google like this
http://www.google.ru/search?hl=ru&q=h…
And about browser you can try to check with some other browser like opera or mozilla. They work pretty good.
