I have much experience in starting websites and I would recommend, if you can, to go it alone and set up on your own website space. Even if you are just using a blogging platform to publish your website, private web space really pays off.

If you have some cash, I smaller web host will be able to offer you a more personal service and help you out as you go.

One of my companies is a small scale personal web host and I know that we work hard to help people like yourself get the most from your hosting - often we do this free of charge.

What kind of site are you wanting to make?

Microsoft (free domain and hosting for life) , Google (Googlepages, Blogger) , Yahoo (Geocities), Freewebs are some of the companies offering free websites with design tools . A list of free websites with features and links is available at

If you don’t want to spend the time to learn HTML, then get a WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get) and use a template to start with. PageBreeze is a very easy to use editor and does a great job, and it’s free. Do a Google search for it.
