Hello, this is my first post here!

Found this website after I was recommended here.

So my problem(s). I’ve probably explained them a good few times and never seem to cover everything, I’ll try and keep this short.

As far as mental diagnosed problems go, I have none. I have never been diagnosed with a mental illness so in that sense, I’m fine. I have very slight OCD (in the way, if the curtain is hooked up on something, I feel I HAVE to unhook it so it all looks neat) but that is very small and I feel it in no way conflicts with the main problems.

I have red hair (as you can probably see from my profile avatar) and over in the UK that seems to be a problem! I spent my entire Secondary School time being bullied (from the ages of 12-16). None of the bullying was physical, it was purely verbal. I am now 17 and far away from that place, I very rarely encounter verbal abuse anymore, but when I do I react very drastically from it. It can be something small such as “Alright ginge!” I’m fine for about 20 seconds or so, when I can almost laugh it off, then I just flip. It’s like I’m not in the right mind anymore, I just want to grab something and hurl it accross the shop, or grab the closest person by the throat and just release the anger. I fear what I would do if I encountered what I used to get ever again.

I have been told that this is quite normal if you have experienced something bad in the past, the smallest thing can spark off intense emotions. Although it’s good to know this is “normal”, I can’t help but worry.

Normal or not, what happened to me has changed who I should have been. I never go out, have never been in a relationship, get angry very easily and get anxious about almost anything, and I can’t really enjoy anything properly anymore.

I have heard all the advice before, but please still respond. It is always good to voice how you feel and that always helps, thoughts would be great, but I don’t want to sound rude, any advice I have heard it all before. It’s just good to know people understand sometimes.

Are you looking for information on uploading an avatar or why you aren’t recieving notices on tags you’re subscribed too?

Unfortunately both of these features have been disabled until further notice. Looks like you’ll have to stick with your “letter of the alphabet” avatar. You can also Contact us with any other issues you have.

As far as Im concerned, the best approach is just to accept that some idiots have nothing better to do with their life and dont let them affect yours =)

Just self control obviously helps =) thinking of things your looking forward to or a nice thing someones said to you to keep you calm but if you think it really is a problem best speak to someone who knows what they’re doing =)

Unfortunately because I’m very inclusive (if that’s the right word) I very rarely hear anything good about myself. Although I definately feel my confidence has built recently (i.e., in a situation where I would have simply got embarassed and ran away from the situation, I now go on the offence and attack the sitation), I still never go out and cannot form any new relationships past the ones I already made at school, or it takes me very long to form any new friendships, just to gain the trust.

Thanks for your reply :D

I can’t figure out why you were bullied at all other than the others must have been right jealous. Personally I think red haired guys are very sexy. (I’ve always had that soft spot.)

And by the way, I HAVE built a cardboard car…

Claire, I’d say we’re friends too :) But say if you spoke to me in person, I can’t say I’d be the most exciting person to be around at first, I can only truly open up to friends I’ve known for very long, I hate it it’s like a barrier! And of course a cardboard car would make me smile, that I can’t deny! :D

Cotton, thanks alot for your reply. I have to say sometimes I enjoy this new found anger I have aquired. I was always angry at what happened to me, but it seems only recently it’s started to affect how I act. I just need to learn to control it like you say. I can’t say I’d be good at controlling these people with kindness, in all honesty I’d rather pummel them through a few sheets of glass with no remorse or pitty, but then the consequeces probably wouldn’t be too great.

Rebellionaire, I notice you live in the US, I think over there red hair is more widely “accepted” than over here. If you ask anyone from over here about it, they’ll probably crack a joke about it, or say they’ve witnessed it and think it’s ridiculous.

I was bullied for a while myself, for being different. So I reckon I have similar feelings to you. It’s easy to move yourself away from the situation, but the remains of the hurt are still there and it often flares up…

I’ve been known to hit out in the past over throw-away comments. I know that the comments shouldn’t anger me, but they do.
Though, last year, my parents bought me a punching bag. Haha. Best present ever. I simply imagine that the presence of every ignorant bastard ever is in enclosed within the punching bag and hit out like crazy - ’s better than hitting a person… Punching bag’s don’t hit back :]

And red hair is lovely… I dyed my hair red… ’s far nicer than a boring brown ;]

Hopefully, this will help. It certainly helped me!

Makes alot of sense, “The secret of life is to dare”, that probably means the most to me. In most situations I will think “Hey… what if!” but will back out, or leave it at a thought. I’ll read over that again a few times. Thanks :D

I know what you mean! I feel me spending a good majority of my time alone on the PC has almost become a habit, and I can’t break out of it. I think once you feel comfortable in a situation it’s hard to get out of that routine, because it feels safe.

Lol people keep saying I look like him! Thanks for the message :)

Cotton, since leaving my psychologist a few months ago (I was with him for about 2 years), I find the internet is the only place I can talk to people about these problems, while it does feel great and I do get some of the best advice on here, I just wish I had it in me to chat about it in person with someone. But my problem is, I feel like I’m just whining and the other person doesn’t want to hear it, like I’m trying to get attention, so I just don’t do it in fear of looking like an attention seeking little whiny *****. On the internet though, I know people have a choice of reading what I write and there is a lack of expression on here so it feels safer to express myself.

I see what you’re saying, not fighting back is always the best form of getting back at someone.. sometimes the feelings are pretty irresistable though, I have yet to act upon them though :\

I don’t express my anger, atall. Well, unless keeping it all bottle in is expressing it?

I tryed giving that a go at work.. It was just another normal night really! Whilst I was walking home from college though. I just thought.. “I’m in work.. I have friends there, I’m not hated by anyone.. I’ve left school and never have to retur there.. I’m learning to drive and am always getting great compliments from my instructor on how well I’m doing”. It just felt so great, the moment I just… realised! I hope this lasts lol. I’m not expecting it to, but I’m hoping it will.
