My computer can see the others on the network, but they can’t see me!

I work at an office with 6 networked computers (all with a wired connection). We recently had out router replaced, and now we’re having some trouble. I can see the other computers on my network, but they can’t see me. None of us can see one of the other computers. These two computers are the only ones having a problem. We also have a wireless hub with two laptops connected, but I checked the IP addresses on these, and there doesn’t seem to be a conflict. We are all running Windows XP. I can ping my coworker’s computer and I can see him, but he can’t ping me or see me. Does anyone have any advice (I am set up on the network and set up for filesharing). My computer shows up under options for mapping a network drive, but I can’t be selected. If anyone needs more info, please let me know.

Unfortunately, if the way the cluster was originally set up has not changed, most likely there is an issue in the way that you installed your router, and not the file sharing.

Please give the information on the make and model of the router and hub.

you need to run the network wizard on all the pc’s again. basicly setting up a completely new network to eliminate all issues…

I’m not going to bother with crystal ball gazing as to why? etc; instead get back to basics.

Things to check:

(before begin) check all cables, isolation tests etc.

1.All computers have dynamic or static IP set; chances are that the wireless pc’s have wireless cards set to dynamicly assign ip. Might be a good idea to make them all static, so at least you know each address.
2.Check IP address all have same ranges set eg. 192.168.1.1-255
3.Make sure subnet mask are identical on all pc’s eg. 255.255.225.0
4.If using windows file sharing all computers need same workgroup or domain. eg MSHOME or WORKGROUP.
5.Check modem/router settings
6.Give up; return modem/router blame manufaturer.
