school help: I have a problem. - Help.com

I have a problem.

I hate my job. What’s new, right? It’s boring, tedious and hard with long hours. It is with a major corporation, so the pay is amazing. I moved away from home to take it and now I am lonely. I think that I have diminished as a person since I started 2 years ago. I want to leave, but I have to pay back my huge grad school loan. I feel bad about whining about having a good paying job, but it just isn’t right for me. Please help, I need feedback.

Cut back on all your living expenses and put everything you make into clearing that debt as fast as you can and into retraining for what you would like to do.

Make sure you research any career you are thinking of moving into and speak to people who already work in that field.

I was in a similar situation 14 years ago. Looked into retraining as a physiotherapist and getting out of IT. But I needed to go to school for 4 years to qualify and it would be 8 years or more before my salary was going to catch up to where it already was. Then when I talked to some therapists it turned out the work wasn’t going to be how I imagined it so I shelved the idea.

I ended up looking for opportunities within the bank I worked for and got retraining and a new role with them. That way I kept my salary and found something I liked better than what I had been doing.

Good luck
Axe
