Okay, instead of cutting I will…

Can you guys try to give me some suggestions for things I can do when I am very distraught and wanting to cut myself? I know why it’s bad for me, and I want to stop. How can I help myself without harming my body?

You can:
- buy a sword and learn how to use it to increase your focus or awareness. It’s more interesting than cutting yourself =)
- sit down and meditate, but this is hard at the beginning
- extreme sports (they unveil your potential)

Take it all out… your frustrations, anger, doubt with physical challange. Go to an open feild throw things or throw a heavy object like a tire around as you shout out your frustrations. A punching bag is so good, unleash it all on the heavy bag.

Meditation, writing in a journal, talking to someone, listening to music, sleeping, reading, enjoying being outside. These are all healthy alternatives to cutting that I used to overcome my addiction. I’m really glad you are trying to stop cutting, that’s a huge step. Take care. My shoutbox is always there if you want to talk. :)

One, don’t. If you feel like cutting yourself, bite your arm instead. It worked for me!

When I used to cut, I used to “draw” and eventually decided to just make a slash each day to kind of count the days I was unhappy. One day it dawned on me that it wasn’t really fixing any problems, but was leaving scars. Try to keep yourself occupied about other things and try to push cutting out of your mind as soon as the idea comes up. Once you start to progress on getting your problems worked out, you won’t have that need to cut.

why do you cut yourself?
you need to go deep down and really find out why you need to do it in the first place. this will be the ultimate cure for it.
but in the meantime, as distractions, there are a lot of great tips up there:)
the rubber band thing worked pretty well for me.

havent read the replies so sorry if this is already said.

cutting is a release from frustration, and you need to find a way to get rid of that.

so from experience…here are a few suggestions of alternatives.

-buy a punch bag! and beat the hell outta that.
-write it all down. or keep a diary thats secret. you can hate everyone and slag everyone off as much as you want and it wont matter!
-take a walk or climb something

run freezing cold water over your wrists.

get into a really really hot bath…that stinging hot feeling feels like a release of frustration.

I woukld say take a kick boxing class… I’ve always wanted to do that. Its a great way to get out your anger and frustration which is normally why someone would cut in the first place. Or my personal favorite… go to a secluded place and SCREAM!!!!!!!! I love doing that and it really really helps…
