While studying for my midterms i stumbled across this question.

“Two kids are standing on frictionless ice. Their feet get col. Explain what is happening to the heat from their feet. Why does the kid who is wearing boots have warmer feet than the one who made his of tin foil?”
I understand the 2nd part of the question. The answer to that is that rubber is a better insulator than tin foil. But what happened to the heat from their feet?
PLEEEEAAASSSEEEEE HELP i would much appreciate it.

I think its because there isn’t so much blood circulating at the same time through the feet, so the feet don’t manage to heat, so the persons’ feet become cold.

This is only a guess, so bear with me.

Think about the footwear…why are the boots better insulators than tinfoil?

i think the blood actually slows down when it’s cold which is also the reason when its cold we become tired.

You don’t REALLY understand it, otherwise you would be able to answer the first part of the question!

I’ll give you a hint, though: What would happen if you put a tiny bit of ice on those kids feet while they were inside? Would they get as cold as if they were standing on the frozen lake?

If that doesn’t help, here’s my final hint: thermal equilibrium.
