Has anyone here read stuff by Phillip Pullman?

This is probably going to start a religious feud on here, but the “His Dark Materials” trilogy (the Golden Compass, etc.) and the movie are not about killing God. In the third and final book of the trilogy, Lyra and a friend, Will, release God (who had been abandoned) from His prison, and He is so weak, he dies. They don’t kill Him, it was an accident!!! I am a devout Catholic, but I still love the books and the Movie.

His Dark Materials was an amazing series. Ultimately, one chord of the book is to overthrow the Magesterium…basically destroying the Church so people can have free will again. Showing how “pious” people can be extremely hypocritical in order to make sure that their “faith” isn’t impeded by the thoughts of others.

There is a story tangent in the 3rd book that has some characters attempting to seek out God, the Ruler of the Magesterium, in order to kill him during the final war, just as any army commander would attempt to kill the leaders of a battalion to gain control. I’m an Atheist, and found the books refreshing with an intriguing new view of the Afterlife, and the movie was extremely disappointing.
