This is a common problem. It’s hard to completely change your frame of mind without actually suffering a failure, which would kick you into action. I find shouting at myself in the mirror sometimes helps….

Set a false deadline for yourself and make yourself believe it…

yer but even when i have a faulse deadline i procrastinate till the real one cos i know tht its not true and as for shouting at my self in the mirror well it doesnt work cos i stand there and laugh at myself. why the hell do i have such a big procratination problem. i never used to have this sort of problem its only been since well i dunno its been about 2 years i used to do all my homework as soon as i got it its was great but now i cant even do it when its due for the next day.

and yes i am procrastinating but if im not on here trying to get help for my problem then im on some site that i wont get off of till i go to bed which pisses me off cos it means that ive wasted time i could have found help for my problem.

And i find that after eating i procrastinate more and then i have to go do something else before i can do my work. but i cant do anything at the moment because i know that if i leave the computer then i will come back and just go to bed.

You HAVE to solve this for yourself. I was a huge procrastinator in high school too, but I always met deadlines. After college I found that homeworke etc. was really meant for you to LEARN. You have to want to learn the information in front of you. You really need a way to connect to it — it is kind of about learning strategies and how you learn best… What are you trying to accomplish? What are your interests? Are you depressed? Only asking because depression side tracks you in a big way.

im interested with art and textiles. im trying to do well in school and i don’t think im depressed but that could just me talking because well i dont want to be depressed i have a real problem in knowin who i am but other than that i don’t know what to do. i don’t know how i can put art and textiles into my science revision. if i did then i think that i would be okay but i dont and so i cant concentrate on something if i dont have a way of adding art or textiles into it. i mean how do you put art into science revision or any revision for that matter?

Sorry, but what is science revision? There could very well be a way to put art and textiles into it. And… it sounds like you may very well know yourself. You do need to explore way/careers that will encompass art and textiles and there are many more ways than your high school guidance counselors will tell you about. Where to look can be a bit of a question and finding the right place should be an adventure. Don’t give up you are on the right track.

just left you a shout,I am a procrastinator too.Real bad.what i’ve learned is that it stops me from having fun, friends, and it hurts me and others.Don’t feel guilty or ? just try again. It helps to journal, make little goals each day and do the hardest first.

I am battling the procrastination bug too. My solution is to (surprisingly) do more. If I have been busy all day and I perceive my future as being busy- I’m less likely to think “ok, I have so long to do it- I can put it off a little longer”

well, it took a very long time of self conditioning myself to get out of bing a procrastinator. constant financial problems or having kids will snap you out of it. i have just simply convinved myself that the outcome is just too severe for me to have procrastination being an everyday vice.
i would also set false alarms, but also personal rewarding. i would reward myself by treating myself to extra reading or sketching time by finishing my work or cleaning or laundry whatever i was procrastinating on before it was even necessary. it created a whole new way of life for me. really. i’m usually the first to arrive for parties now… that’s cool.

good luck.. and if all else fails “you’ve always got tommorrow” .. lol!
