gross question: any medical professionals here?

i have a knee problem which includes frequent dislocations and small chips of bone floating around (they sometimes move to the side of my knee and painfully restrict movement). . anyways, last night i (sterilely) removed one of the bone chips by myself. the chip was surrounded by tiny opalescent beads and a thick, fibrous membrane. I kept the stuff i removed and would like to bring it to the doctors for a biopsy. any advice on how to store it? would saline work? btw i would call but i dont have a phone. thanks!

i have seen a doctor. i have another appointment in a month. last night one of the bone chips went to the side and it hurt like hell and i couldnt bend my leg, so i went home and took it out. my parents are both doctors and i want to be one too, so i’ve seen a good number of surgeries and i know i did it very well.

nah just ice. self-surgeries are always way less painful. after the first cut my endorphins just started pumping and i couldn’t feel it at all. this morning it was a little swollen and painful, so i took the stitches out and put more antibiotic ointment on it. thats okay if you don’t know. i put it in saline. i suppose i should email my dad and ask him what to do. thanks anyway!

Not a medical professional.

Method I (Use for transport times greater than a few hours):
Place part of the biopsy in 10% buffered formalin and part in Michel’s transfer medium (also called Zeus medium), each in a small, tightly closed specimen container. We order our medium from Wampole Laboratories, Division of Carter-Wallace, Inc., Cranbury, NJ 08512.
Place the tightly closed containers in ice in an insulated box and send. These media will preserve tissue adequately for all studies, including immunofluorescence studies. Material will be fine for a few days as long as it is kept cold.
Method II (Use for transport times of up to several hours):
Place the biopsy in saline-moistened gauze inside a sealed Petri dish. The specimen should not be floated in saline.
Place the Petri dish in ice in an insulated box and send via the fastest method.
FOR BOTH METHODS:
For shipping, please use ice, NOT dry ice.
Frozen specimens will have a large amount of artifact and may not be interpretable.
Please include a form with clinical information for each; we provide a standardized form for this purpose.

By the way, I think doing surgery on yourself even if you’re capable of it is probably not a good idea…

i don’t have any formalin or zeus! i guess i’ll do method 2. thank you so much, i was just about to float it in saline! I don’t think self-surgery’s a good idea either, but i am uninsured and can’t afford the ER. im only doing to the doctor only because he’s a friend of my fathers and he’s doing it for very cheap. i could barely walk and did it only out of need. thank you for the information!

okay hi im not a medical proffesional but my grandfather is the little opalecent bead things that kind of look like pearls that just a build up of calcium the fibre like substance cartledge now you should see a doctor have the fragments removed becuase they will cause massive calcium build up and lock your joint but DO NOT remove yourself cutting that deep can cause a very bad infection especially since there is no enviroment outside of an O.R that is completely sterile pluis you need to have a doctor look at it anyway incase there is any damadge that needs to be taken care of that just won’t fix itself
