Why are there so many sayings out there that dont make sense!
One that sticks out is, Your Lying like a dog! Do dogs lie??

In that context, “dog” is being used as a derogatory term, like an insult.
And the reason there are so many sayings out there that don’t make sense is that English is a confusing language XD

my mom used to tell me “you lie like a rug” - i think that fits better

no, dogs to most ppl mean dirty, so lying like a dog is saying ur lying like ****, its dirty, wrong

ok, maybe i take things too literal, but then again, nobody really thinks about what they say before they say it! I’ve said this before, and I was like, hold on a sec, that doesnt make sense!

yea, but i was looking at it in a literal sort of way! when you look at it that way, it doesnt make sense, but if you wanna be smart and use idioms, jus gonna confuse all us stupid people!

lol, you seem like a good candidate to study antomology (the study of language). You get to learn where everything comes from, even things like “hello” or “f.u.c.k.”/
