finance help: I’m broke, unemployed and on the verge of losing everything! - Help.com

I’m broke, unemployed and on the verge of losing everything!

I need financial help in a bad way and don’t know where to turn! I’ve tried local charities but they either can’t help because I don’t have kids or because they already have met their numbers for people they can help. Not sure what else to do but I’m taking a shot here…

Well why are you unemployed? What happened that got you to this point? Physical, psychological, family issue maybe? If we figure out what it is that brought you to this status, then seek help of that nature. You will need $$$ soon though, won’t you - so an unemployment agency maybe? I’m unemployed, and using several temp agencies to keep myself placed. It stinks though, doesn’t it?

Yeah, it does stink! I was let go from my last job because I didn’t meet my sales goals but before they let me go, they had stopped paying me so I worked for a month with no pay, patiently waiting for a check in the mail that they swore was coming but never did. Not only was I out on my salary, but my commissions and out of pocket expenses were never reimbursed. I have been trying to get work through temp agencies and have registered with 6 already. They always seem to have something and then after I get through the testing, the interviewing, etc., they say they sent someone else on the assignment! BTW, I tested 97% on all of my Microsoft tests so I know its not the scores and according to the staffing agents that I have worked with before, I interview well, so I have no idea what is going on….I don’t have a degree and I think thats what hurts, because I’m 25 and still pursuing a bachelors. :(

I’ve called the city welfare office and they had filled all of their appointments already for the week, but thank you for the suggestion! :)

In my city, they don’t accept walk-ins and you have to have an appt. And for the person who said get a job, thanks for stating the obvious. If I could get a job, I would have one. It’s not like I’m not trying and somehow, I have managed since October without one, just doing temp work but there aren’t many opportunities for work where I live.

Temp work is good. And sometimes you have to take a step backward to move forward again. Good luck.

Apply for jobs, you will get something. Monster, Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals also are becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired. More details and website links available at http://www.pcworkathome.net/jobwebsit…

You can try your luck at online charities like Digital Charity, people may send donations if your story is convincing enough. More information at http://www.laodn.org/

hey (anonymous, who started the post…)

I’m also in my mid 20s
And I have exactly the same situation right now(I don’t live in the USA tho) Because of my former coworker(who’s such a jealous mean *****), I lost my job a little over a month ago. Since then I’ve been looking and looking without any results… so this situation makes me want to leave for a better place. A year ago I broke up with my bf and I had party buddies until recently, but they are really just part y buddies nothing else. I find myself feeling lonely sometimes.
Anyway,I see you posted here almost 6 months ago, and I wonder, how you’ve been since then and whether you found a solution…hope you are doing well:)

I have found a wonderful website that may help! It is called Prosper.com. This is a group of individuals that lend money to people that are not eligilble able to get a bank loan elswhere. You pick your amount and interest rate and multiple people fund your loan. I was able to get a $10,000 loan to pay off a high interest rate credit card and the Proper loan will be paid off in 3 years at a fixed interest rate. These people saved me financially and I will be requesting another loan in Dec to try to get rid of my other nasty credit card debt. Try them, it doesn’t hurt to look!!
