business help: I’m just troubled. - Help.com

I’m just troubled.

lol. I got admission in Cambridge University in England. Can’t afford it. Got in a few other universities also wherever I applied. I can afford those. I just finished my engineering. My father wants me to help him with his business. He’s got a pretty established construction firm in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, UAE. I did my engineering because he wanted me to, but I cant go on anymore. And yet I don’t want to study and start my career till I’m 30. And what I have been reading online, it seems becoming a barrister is very risky. Just need a few fresh ideas if anyone knows how risky it is, how it works in England and stuff, would appreciate it.

I live in England and just happened across this site while looking for something else and saw your post. Have you any idea how lucky you are to get offered a place at Cambridge University? You must be very clever. Most youngsters in this country would give their right arm for a place there. Think carefully before refusing it. It opens a lot of doors later in life if you have a qualification from Oxford or Cambridge.

Well I wanted to study law before even joining engineering school. He refused. He’s old fashioned and kinda not open to opinions and views lol. He believes the only professional degrees are Engineering and Medical. I had to choose between them. I can afford a cheap university on my own since I have been running a small business of my own for a few years. But he made it clear he wont “Allow” me to do Law. So no point in asking him for help. He wants me to end my business also, leave Canada and join him with his business thats it. So I really don’t have much choices. And I can’t really quit on my dream. I did a degree for him (Engineering) and now I have to do what I wanted to do. Sad part is, I wont be able to do it in my dream school (Cambridge) :(.

Asaad, honestly, I think that you would have to persue cambridge.. You have to do what makes you happy. If there is a will there’s a way. So apply to scholarships, see if you can apply for student loans. Ask me for money, lol… do whatever you gotta do.. but PLEASE GO!!!! I was raised in the middle east too, and although my parents were not the pushy type, I witnessed all the doctor/engineer craziness right infront of my eyes.. but I believe that life is too short. u have to seek what you love and see where the road takes you. GO FOR IT!! and good luck from the bottom of my heart=)

I work as a trade Analyst for Maersk and I’m currently persuing my masters in International transportation Management, hoping to graduate then have enough energy to continue with a PHD in the maritime field… My goal is to retire at… maybe 35 from the stress of the world and stick to hopefully teaching at a university and doing some research work… but I still have a long way to go.. =) so you never know where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing..

Holy crap.. and here you were telling me that im smart :| I mean you have your whole life planned out and trade analyst .. that is some impressively serious stuff. I always thought of doing PhD but then my plans are more political, so probably after law I’ll just be working to bring a change in my country. But man I gotta stay more in touch with you.. you mind adding me on some messenger?
