How’s your credit? Can you apply for a loan? How old are your children?

Was he just kicked out on the spot, or was he laid off? Did he get a severance package or anything? Any notice?

I guess those questions aren’t all that relevant. What do you mean by “straighten things out”? Has your husband applied for unemployment in the interim while he looks for another job?

Any lead as to why he was fired? Employment-at-will is an incredible pain in the rear end, so I understand if not.

But if I’m understanding you correctly, his company his fighting to prevent giving him any unemployment after firing him in the first place? Jesus.

You need to preserve your funds as best as you can. Take extra efforts to cut down your utilities and the like. Turn off your heat at night. Skip showers if you can. Never eat out. Browse this article for some other ideas.

If all else fails, have him get any job until the unemployment dispute settles—even if it’s at a fast food joint. Any income is better than no income.

I’m sorry that these times are so difficult for you. I wish I could be more specific to your scenario, but I guess I don’t know as much as I’d like about what has gone on. I hope that I haven’t been entirely useless.

Im from the UK so I don’t know how things work there, so ignore me of anything is wrong.
but the best thing I can say is you get an extra job just to make ends meet. try local shop for a few hours a week or a satuday type job until they sort your husbands unemployment out and hopefully it wont affect it as much, but it might get you through.
Check the legal things about you earning first though.
Also check local sevices and charities to see if there is a form of crisis loan you can get until this is all sorted or free advice or help. I know its a long shot but you have a family to look after you should be due to something.

Good luck I hope it works out soon

Vicki

This isn’t totally related, but drink water every chance that you get—and I mean every chance that you get. My mother had breast cancer and underwent several sessions of chemo, and her blood count would peak to its normal stage within 2 or 3 weeks of each treatment. She was almost rarely ever in bed apart from a few occasions here and there. It astonished the doctors, and all of us, to say the least.

She has been in remission for 8 years now.

Hope is always there, regardless of its apparent lack of existence. I’ve never veered away from that notion. I’m sorry if I sound like I’m throwing empty words.

Keep in touch.

Im like you. I dont know what to do ether. I,ve sent e-mails to cogress, the president, and any where else I can think of. All you can do is pray and hope that someone out there will take note. Check and see if there is a community action program in your erea. OCAP. If there is they can help with light and heat bills.

o my gosh. I am almost in the same situation. My husband found out that he is about to be fired from his job so that they don’t have to pay him a severance package. I have stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 40. I have 3 kids. I am currently taking chemo and am unable to work. Even though my cancer may spread and kill me if i quit taking chemo
I am thinking about quiting chemo and going back to work. I will also loose my medical insurance so I will not be able to continue treatment anyways. There are not too many jobs in my husbands field he is a prepress manager of a newspaper with 20 years and many promotions up to now not a single complaint about his work. I am searching the internet looking at jobs and for assistance and I came across your situation. Please let me know if you found a solution to your problem or could offer some advice. I feel for you also. And I know how hard it is to take chemo and take care of children. I do not have any family help either. I am hoping that you have a good family to offer support. good luck to you and if you want to compare notes e mail me at any time
