Alex DeGrassi–on the windham Hill Label. Clasical guitar, listened to it every night to fall asleep my sophmore year of college….
Yeah, I’d go with flamenco, although it depends on which type, really… There is some ‘lighter’ flamenco, mostly acoustic guitar; and some really quite odd stuff deep set in the older culture of Spain that has quite long vocal interludes and what I can only describe as incredible castanet solos.
Asturias by Albeniz, good taste =)
try Concierto de Aranjuez, Study n1 by Heitor Villalobos, Recuerdos de la Alhambra by tarrega, Romance Anónimo, Adelita y Lágrima or la malagueña.
And if u like Flamenco, look for Camarón de la Isla. He recorded stuff with Paco de Lucia. Best cantaor ever along with one of the best guitarist ever. Manitas de Plata is awesome too. More rough, less academical but so soulfull. Tomatito is also one of the most famous. I’ll stop now =)
