I’m afraid I don’t know much about US business practices. Is it possible to get some compensation from whichever local authority dug up this road? If it is, use the media to drum up support. Regarding your creditors, you need to face them, and work out repayment plans based on what you can afford. If you try to pay some of everything rather than ignoring bills entirely, creditors can at least see you are making the effort - and there are extenuating circumstances which should be explained to them.
Have you asked your friends, family and co-workers for ideas and explained the situation to them? The solutions can come from the most unexpected places. If you manage to just hold on till your business is back to the level it was, you should be fine…

I have been in the position of desperation, both personally and professionally, and I can tell you first-hand, trying to collect on life insurance is NOT the way to go…. and from what I know of insurance- your family could possibly have their lives ripped to shreds if you chose to do that, and then not be able to collect a dime since it was self inflicted. My personal opinion, for what it’s worth, is for you to lobby with your city to show them the heardships you’ve been forced to endure for their growth- if that falls on deaf ears, move to your state- if that fails, then get creative with advertising and catch the attention of your fellow citizens…. if you allow yourself to lay down and die- evil wins - and Nothing good can come out of it, especially for your loved ones. No matter what you choose, remember: God will only put on you what he knows you can handle- he will bring you through this, keep him close in your heart and pray to him often.

Ok, I have watched now some replies, and all offer hope, now I am as said professional in this, in fact a lot more so then you might see here, and who you are dealing with I can assure you are now in good hands.
This can all be done even with many assets, if you have lots of assets, let me know so I can guide you to keep them and get rid of debts, if you bring emotion into this business you will feel guilty, if that is so and you have assets, sell them all and start over again, health, happiness, and family is all that matter not cash, money……….
Now let me get down to business.
1, your debts do not matter they are just debts.
2. You are in the USA, now loaned will only dig you deeper, and you will lose a lot more.
3. So how do you solve this issue, 1st stop the worry, debts are stupid ok, no one is going to get you, most 99% of collection stuff is just scare tactics, so if you actually do not respond, some will just go away.
4. But I do not want you to do that or get upset, I want you to get all your debts, and I mean all of them, and ad them up, then I want you to go and for business file chapter 11 bankruptcy, or 7 personally.
This will get rid of 95% of your debts.
5. Then you will be debt free to continue your business.
6. Stop thinking but I want to pay them, stop that this is business, they will get you if they can, so you have to think of survive, family and you, not negative stuff like you are.
But ok you are now saying, what about my credit, see I know what you are thinking, so keep listening…Credit will be worse if you do not pay them, credit will be bad, if you do, credit will be bad if you file 11 or 7,through your lawyer.
If will stay bad if you pay them off over 20 years…
If you file , you will have no debts, and you can stay healthy, continue business, be a happy family, and laugh and cry…Ok now your credit again…You keep back two credit cards, you file as I say, you then obtain all your credit reports, and you cannot have duplicate items on there, such as 11 or 7 and all the debts listed too, so you can have everything removed except the 7 0or 11, now you just have 7 or 11 and no debts on there, you pay your cards the two you keep on time, you will have good credit again in I year to 3 years, if you build this credit after 11 or 7, you will have rebuild your credit, and also in 5 more years the 7 or 11 will drop off……and you will be fully ok……but really ok as soon as you take action…You will have better credit, no debts, more money, happier family, and no issues..Now go about your life happy and stay clear of debt….
