Computer Help.
I’m trying to start up a game it keeps telling me somthing called CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer and was wondering if anyone knew what the ment. To solve the problem and play the game i was planning on restarting my computer but i have an animating program contaning all my work and sprites in the folder. Im trying to move the folder through email but it wiill only do it file by file ( a File is whats inside the folder, not the folder itself). So if anyone knows that term i mentiond and how to send a folder through email, please tell me. Thank you in advance.

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showt… Read what they have to say.
i used to get that. i guess you have a laptop? it would happen sometimes when i’d alt+tab.
what fixed it was getting the Omega drivers. i uninstalled my normal ones in safe mode, used Driver Cleaner in safe mode, then got the Omega drivers and it hasn’t happened again
also try running the game in directx 8.1 (-dxlevel 81 in launch properties) and obviously disabling bloom and HDR
the answer on Steam support says
The ‘Failed to lock index buffer’ error will occur when you Alt+Tab to switch between windows while playing a game and your machine is unable to allocate sufficient memory to render graphics when you switch back to your game window.
The best solution for this behavior is to properly exit the game to return to your desktop so you may work with other applications.
The error speaks for itself “CMeshDX8″ the dx8 part tells you you need direct x8 and not 9 x or above
Like I posted above, you might take a look at what people had problems with on the forum link above. I’ve never had any problems due to me having DX10 and a high end computer, but in the forum link a few people had the problem on a laptop.
I did read forum and few others before I got to the answer , its not just half life game that has problem , the latest video drivers and correct version of direct x are req
Oh I know that, just thought maybe what they had to say would co-relate to his problem and maybe something they found would be useful. Like I said, I know nothing about this sort of thing, since I’ve never ran into it. I’ll let you take over :) Best of luck!
Thanks Greg , but like you I can never know everything either , stick around I may be wrong , fixing PC’s is a try , try and try again job your always learning new trick even me :-)
why not copy the files to a thumb drive? seems as if that would be easier. do you have one?
No kidding, even having professional experience with repair/building/and restoring computers experience I learn something new about every day lol. Copying them to a USB drive might be easier as THISFIRE-BurnForYou said.
sorry missed file problem ,select all files rightclick on one and choose sendto > compressedfile folder> then add zip to pen drive or email
one thing. i have no laptop.
Well it shouldn’t matter, you still have the same problem right? lol. I think it occurs from what I read on both laptops and desktops. I’d go with super’s advice more than mine. I’m not so savvy on this :S
oh well, thx anyway
Yeah shouldn’t matter laptop or desktop the problem is video, direct x and drivers:-
Re: Rollback from DirectX 9.0c
Possible that the install didn’t quite go right? Could always try to fix your DirectX install, as per Description of DirectX 3.0 Maintenance Setup Dialog , from Microsoft.
As for uninstalling or rolling back, it’s integrated into the OS. This from MS:
Q How do I uninstall DirectX?
A DirectX 9.0 is a system component and cannot be uninstalled. If there is a problem with the DirectX installation, it can normally be resolved by shutting down all running applications and reinstalling. As mentioned previously, DirectX 9.0 is fully backward-compatible with titles written for previous versions of DirectX. If you are having other problems after installing DirectX 9.0, these can often be resolved by installing updated drivers for your display card, audio card, or input device.
As with most software, users of Windows ME and Windows XP have the option of creating a “System Restore point” before installing. System Restore points allow you to roll back your operating system to a time before the software was installed. If you feel there are special circumstances which may necessitate removal of DirectX. It is recommended that you create a System Restore point. Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows 2000 do not support the “System Restore” feature.

Granted, you could always do a reinstall; but, you’ll be updated to 9 when you install SP2 anyways.
Also, did you try to reinstall your video drivers after the DX9 install (if applicable?)
