If you are an American, you have a responsibility to VOTE.
Relying on others to make the decisions for this country is cheating yourself and putting more responsibility on those who do vote. . I would encourage everyone who is 18 or older to make a difference in this election. It’s going to be very important especially this time around, so get out and VOTE!

Well said, make democracy work! Or at least try. I can’t vote in this election, not being a US citizen, but I applaud the encouragement to vote!
i vote for more beer
Psychicgus: the reason why politics are corrupt and no one has a voice is because we have chosen not to vote so those in the system are free to do as they please. The more people vcte, the more the system will work, or at least the bad will be flushed out because more people will be paying attention
Politicians are corrupt, and they do lie. A lot. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore politics, they are relying on your apathy. You must have you say. If you don’t like something, campaign, make yourself heard, exercise your right to vote. Don’t just sit back and moan about it.
I wish voting had a impact as longer as we have a system that
does not acknoledge popular vote we are victums of a corrupt
government. Here in Mt. lobbists are bought and sold. we vote
along standing senator out, he goes and becomes a lobbist!
Our gov. does not represent us, It’s suppose to be OF the people
For The people. These filthy rich, only represent the Rich.
we would be far better off if they pulled names out of a hat
for a lobbists. Better yet Popular vote everyone should feel there vote
counts. Example” in primaries you have to vote for all REPUBLICAN or ALL
DEMOCRATE, not for who do feel is the best person for the job, the day
of rep vs dem. is out dated. We someone who is REALLY of the poeple
For the People. JMO
tttillet: Yes we all know the present problems, but we need to vote now as this system is in place, for the person we think will change the system. If we don’t vote the system will get more corrupt. The more people vote, the less opportunity the system has to continue being corrupt. Complaining doesn’t help, voting does.

Unfortunately, the dumbarses will also vote. I’d rather that there were less votes because the dumbarses didn’t vote…
At least everyone will be represented if everyone votes. There will be less room for corruption and misuse. Dumbasses or not, everybody needs a voice. Unfortunately in this country right now only the rich have a voice because everyone else has not spoken up or has given up.
but if dumbarses have a forced voice, i mean the sort who go, “i like that name ill pick that one” because they know nothing about politics. i mean, they have the right to a voice, but the right to not. you cant force freedom upon someone. if they pick the one with the nice name it might lead to corruption
I agree with you, but with the risk of having a population that doesn’t vote at all versus a population that only votes for the popular candidate? I’ll take the latter.
even if u vote the people in power don’t listen to the public
they just do what they want
and even when they ask the public they just ignore us ********!
Not voting does not solve the issue. And have you actually contacted your representatives? Told them what you want? Written them? Maybe you’re not voting for the right people, or not following up in the right ways, but the system works whe it is used (and btw you’re not American, so you have a different system)
Yes I have repeatly wrote letters and contacted numerous people
in our state, I have been apart of Hazardous waste dumping by RR
illegal removable of asbestous,3-super fund sites. Each administration
has shown no-interest in these topics.I was one of 33-people undually
subjected to cleaning up asbestous illegally removed, without any safty
gear. Th RR here in Montana has all politicans in there pocket. Proof
our former Gov. and senators are now BNRR representives,These administrations
never checked into anything. With my help, our county got 9-million, but
what about moving a federal crime state to state? I have proof, Livingston’s
Mission WYE site (cleaned-up now) 1-super fund site, West Burlington, Iowa shops
I reported the same dumping procedures ineffect. PCB’S, alcalines, currosives
high metals dumped on ground reported in 92′ I personally was charged with
insubordanation, for refusing to open and dump barrels of oil down a outside drain! No-one oversees these people in office so there is no-one to say if they are doing a good job or not. I watch all my friends DIE early, from being apart of this.
my dept. we would get PCB’S in a wet cardboard box not knowing these are leakers
PCB’s are carsinagens, cancer causing agents. No responce from Helena. I did what
I was told till enough is enough. Would you open and dump a barrel of oil into a outside drain? No ability to stop as 1st person to leave my dept. was union griever
so no-one to tell! Now BNRR vertually has no-more employees (the people who fix the
trains) there all under warranty now thus needing no-one to repair them. Most of
the people I have had the pleasure to work with have died, cancer this cancer that.
But don’t blame the RR as they have been excellent at covering there (email removed) They
have 8-trucking co’s in Mt. none of witch are called BN. they have a monopoly
on the transportation industry in MT. Now can you see why so corupt,
It is because things don’t seem to work the way we should that we become disheartened. It is because we get disheartened that we don’t vote, it is because we don’t vote that things get worse. It is an endless circle which feeds on itself and unless that circle is broken, it continues to florish. The only way to break that circle is to activly be a part of the solution, by coting. Because if you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem.
Let me try that again…
Correction “work the way they should”

i can’t comment on the american

however, consider that it is extremely irrational to vote
the only time your vote made a difference is if your vote changed the outcome of the election
if the election would have gone one way if you hadn’t voted, and it went the other way because you voted, then your vote mattered
but that only happens when the election is a tie and you are the tiebreaker, or when it’s almost a tie and you made it a tie
which is incredibly unlikely, especially in a national election with millions of voters
Therapsis: I see youre logic (and the logic of the majority of Americans who dont vote because of the delegate system). But it’s not true. Just because there is an electoral system does not mean your vote doesn’t count, especially in the primaries and local politics.
Yes, it may only actually change the outcome of the election if it is very close, BUT if more people got out and voted, then there would finally be an arguement to end the electoral system once and for all. They’ve been talking about it for 3 elections now, but there aren’t enough voters to stand up and say something about it with their vote. There are candidates this election who are talking about changing to voting system. But you have to VOTE for that candidate in order for him or her to change it.
Like Watcher said above, it’s a cycle that will continue unless we stop taking for granted our voting rights that so many other countries long to have. It may not be a perfectly fair system but compared to many, many other countries it is the fairest system around……. WHEN WE VOTE!
Interesting post. I’ve still never registered to vote since I always thought I am not educated or informed in politics enough to make a good choice.
I’m not sure what I will do, they say they will do this our that, then once they in office the forget. Or they say will not raise taxes and do anyway, I will have to wait and see.
Dan TL: It is VERY easy to get informed and find out which candidate is doing what you want them to.. You don’t have to be “highly educated.” I will be making a post soon with many unbiased links to show you what the candidates have to offer.
I IMPLORE you to go and register now so you can vote on the primaries and learn about the candidates in the meantime. PLEASE register. You can help the system finally make a difference.
webjeff: wait on what? Wait to register or wait to decide? Waiting is never a good option. Like I said to Dan, I’ll post some links to help you learn about the candidates. Learn NOW, don’t wait.
Problem is that it always feels like choosing between the lesser of the two evils. It also always feels sort-of hopeless. Like I live in Utah and I don’t care who wins the Primaries, because of the electoral College, if I vote democratic my vote won’t count worth ****. Utah is so republican (and I am so NOT a republican)
If I decide “ok, this person is the biggest evil, anyone but him/her” that is the person who wins. I hate it.
Bush is my big example. This year I just want anything but a republican. I don’t like any of them that are in the lead.
(I do plan to vote anyways)
Even if you are a blue in a sea of red your vote counts because it is a vote, and when more people vote we can finally say “look, we’re voting, so it’s time to change the electoral college.”
Another way to have it changed is to write your senators and congressmen. When they receive a phone call, email or visit they conclude that a certain # of other people feel the same way, so make a difference and let them know how you feel.
Everyone always says “the system doesn’t work,” but those are usually the people that don’t use the system.
Im glad you are voting
But the system doesn’t even make sense. It is outdated, it is unessarily complicated. What good does the electoral college matter anyways?

don’t you think you have enough posts about pressuring us to vote, its our choice not yours
I have to decide if I want to vote, I know I should, its my right, but the thing for is once they get into office they ‘FORGET’ there promises.
I was arrested for bludgeoning a man to death with a frozen squirrel after he kept pestering people to vote.
i’m voting for donald duck

oh come on, donald has nothing on Pluto. I’m totally voting for pluto
Zubus Zes, it is because pluto is secretly controlling them all. That is why he seems like a “regular dog” and all the rest do illogical things. It draws attention away from Pluto. That is why I have my vote in for Pluto.
voting is against my religion
Jebus Zeus, I am sorry to hear that. I love puppies (and kitties). and they only vomit when they get sick- you do that too.
Okay boys and girls, you don’t have to vote. I’d prefer you left it up to us adults anyway. Thanks for your input, though. Always good to know what the other side thinks.
so now your saying we’re children because we prefer not to vote, good one
ĐaNi HaŦeS ŸoŪ wrote:

make your choice and I’ll make mine. There is not pressure here, and this post was not directed at you.
i know that
But one point: How many voters do you think really know what they’re voting for? Who listens to every political speech, weighs every factor? Who truly knows what their candidate supports? In these times it’s next to impossible to make an informed opinion. Censorship of the media doesn’t help at all. So most people who vote have, in essence, no idea what they’re voting for. So if you vote, affecting the decision of an entire nation, and you don’t even know what you’re voting for… isn’t that just adding to the problem?
You bring up a great point. Voting is a RESPONSIBILITY. you have to actually do something besides just showing up to the polls.. and with the internet, it is not impossible to make an informed opinion.. it just takes a tiny bit of effort.
While what you say is true, it doesnt make the responsibility of Americans any less.. in fact you outline why it IS so important for Americans to vote..
because, of course, if you aren’t voting, its the other ‘uninformed Americans’ who are deciding who your president is.
And again, if you think the system doesn’t work.. change it, or vote to change it.
neh im not even registered
i don’t want to
It was way easy for me to register- my Government teacher essentially did it for us. Ha ha. I only had to fill out the paper. Really- it is a 20 second thing to fill out.
forgive me i didnt get to read all the replies.
but i also believe that part of the freedom of voting, is having the choice not to vote as well.
but i think if you dont vote, you shouldnt have certain expectations, and you surely shouldnt whine about what’s going on in our political world because you’ve not made the effort to go out and change it. but if that’s okay with you, then so be it. use that freedom.
nope i stay away from politics completely
Not voting is a choice, and is permitted under the law.. so you COULD call it a freedom.. however, it is not a freedom by this definition: the absence or release from ties or obligations. The definition of freedom in this case should be: a liberty taken. And a vote is not only a liberty, but a responsibility. If you don’t use it, eventually you will loose it when the government restricts your rights because you did not vote to keep them. Also, freedom is not only a responsibility but it is not free. Just like all the men dying for our freedom, voting is something you must do in order to keep our liberty.
….Freedom cannot become laziness, or else it will disappear just as easily as it did for the Romans and every other ‘lazy’ civilation.
And “saying away from politics” is not possible. Because by not making a difference you make a choice to be led wherever ‘politics’ takes you.. whether it be to war, to the unemployment office, or to die because you didn’t vote to have insurance. ‘Politics’ is not optional, it affects you every day.
Voting is a huge pain in the ***, where I live the voting system was slow, the wait was up to 1.5 to 2 hours, so I didn’t vote. If they made it easier to vote, I might consider it.
