usually if its green it is antifreeze. I only know because I never have any good luck with cars. Maybe just keep checking it and make sure you have enough fluid in your car till he can look at it, or bring it to a garage if you can. Good luck

didd you say 30 below? yikes. actually, if it is that cold, the car can probably cool itself with the air with below normal antifreeze, the problem is that the antifreeze (actually the coolant system) is what also warms the inside of your car. so if it takes a long time for the cab to get warm, its probably way too low. if its really cold outside the car will be fine for a trip to a garage or even some parts stores will have a helpful associate. a quick (read: temporary) fix is to put an additive to the coolant system that will seal the leak. (parts store will have it, usually under 5 dollars american). ive even seen people break an egg into the radiator to stop a leak for a day or two.

the real issue is finding the leak and fixing it the right way. if its leaking from the water pump or radiator, expect to spend some money. if its just a leaky hose, you’ll probably only need to spend a few bucks. but you need to find out quick.

quick lesson, the car cools itself with the antifreeze. the antifreeze goes through a maze of pipes in the radiator, which has fins attached to these pipes. as you drive, air goes between the fins and pipes and cools them, causing the antifreeze to cool. the antifreeze is then pumped through the motor and cools it off. the colder the air, the more effective it is. this is why your car is fine right now. when it gets warmer, the effect will be much less effective and your car will overheat.

btw, my car had an overheating issue once. we had put a v-8 in the car to replace the v-6, but the we reused the radiator. we swapped the engine in the winter, so we didnt realize the radiator was too small. with sub-zero temps, the radiator worked fine. when spring came, the radiator couldnt keep up and engine temps soared to over 230. very bad. hopefully this makes sense and you can get it fixed.

Thank you all!! dupes_81 thanx for the specifics! i did take it out and its warming in cab fine. i will take it to garage though right away. it was -45c here all week (gotta love that!!) and my plug to car came undone so it wouldnt start and i didnt drive it, cause i have boyfriends truck, but it’s a pig on diesel. so i decided to go back to the car today and backed out and that is when i could see the the green in the snow.

thank you thank you!!
