Disregarding the lyrics, name a song that illustrates You.
In other words, a ‘phonic’ illustration of your personality. :-)
I started thinking about this because, since the first time I heard the first few notes of an Evanescence song, it just illustrated one of my very close friends… To the point that it felt as though she (my friend) was sitting in the room. There are congnctive reasons why one could experience that feeling.
It’s actually a really difficult thing to conceptualize… Take into account everything about the song (Everything) except the story/message being conveyed by the lyrics themselves… So, the beat, the tone, the rythm, the singers voice, the energy (or lack of), etc. etc., but any feeling or emotion the story gives you must be disregarded. Almost like you are listening to a song being sung in a language you do not understand.

I definitely understand where you are coming from, and what you’re trying to explain. There’s a song I have that rips through me and reminds me (without the lyrics) of someone very dear to me who has passed. At times, I feel like he’s standing behind me when it plays. I don’t know why, but that gives me more comfort than anything.
LittleO: I’m trying to find that online right now :-)
Skye: Would you mind sharing the name of the song?
Certainly, as corny as it is. LOL
Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me.
I have a thing about songs being allocated to people. Everyone I know, speak to, etc I always seem to hear a song that reminds me of them. But it’s more the lyrics in most cases. I practically live for my music so I listen to the actual songs and try to find some meaning to them in one way or another. The music and songs I listen to is always because of sentimental value.
Spice up your life…….lol
hehe same here - Im having a trip down memory lane with youtube (Im not that old but these were the songs I loved as a teen)
Original on YouTube.com
Im always a mix! Dinah washington what a difference a day makes, Nina Simone do I move you and I want a little sugar in my bowel, Sarah Vaughan Round midnight, and last but not least Billie Holiday GOD bless the child! All jazz greats I feel like Jazz and the Blues and a hint of rap go figure….
I want to understand what u mean but I don’t,not totally.
Going back to Cali, phonically speaking, By LL Cool J. with a touch of, just be perverse, Sweet Home Alabama, by Lynard Skynard.

Corny? LOL. That songs towards the top of my all-time favorites list. I adore that song. I love Lead Me too. I’m not a big Elvis fan like some others I know, but he certainly did have some beautiful songs.
i’m so glad that you posted this. for so long i have felt this away about certain songs and music that just can’t be put into words. I have more of a band rather then a song that makes me feel this way and thats the Red Hot Chili Peppers. For the longest time I have said that their music is a concept that can’t be put into words. All I know is that when I listen to their music I am just in total different state of mind. The lyrics are always so beautiful and always make you think. Sometimes the music makes me cry too but it’s a healthy cry. but I think it’s wonderful if there is a song out there or band/musician that can make you feel this way. It’s a good “go to” to always have.
Its hard to think of one song that illustrates me fully. Perhaps several songs that capture a few different layers or moods I can generally be in.
A song that has got to me deeply would be ‘So here we are’ by ‘Bloc party’.
I know exactly where you’re coming from. There is something about music that moves us far beyond words or any other concrete ideas out there.
I find that most, if not all Brazilian Bossa Nova songs transport me to eutopia… paradise, if you will. I’m not Brazilian, but listening to these songs almost makes me feel like I am one. I just love the beating of the drum that works harmoneously with the Brazilian Portuguese phonetics… it’s just so beautiful.
My favourite one would have to be Cartola’s “Alvorada”.

- Volver by Estrella Morente. The way she sings that song is haunting, and I don’t even understand the lyrics. The most moving part would be when she sings “sentir” in the chorus. The hope in her voice makes my heart leap, it’s crazy.
- I Love You by the Volumes. The part when they sing the “oooo” at the end of the song, is indescribable.
- Take a Bow by Madonna.
- Jai Ho by AR Rahman. When he sings the first “Jai Ho” of the chorus, I get goosebumps. His voice along with the instruments in the background sound so hopeful.
- Dawn by the Four Seasons.
- Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli.
- Last Dance by Donna Summer.
- New Kid in Town by the Eagles. “There’s a new kid in town….. just another new kid in town… ooo everybody’s talking bout the new kid in town…” If the lyrics were written in German, as long as they kept the melody and the vocalization between the group, I would still be so moved. The melody is out of this world.
