How do you know for sure if you’ve gained muscle instead of fat?

I’ve been on a pretty good eating plan for the past couple months and I lost a couple of pounds. I worked out almost daily usually running 3 miles or so on the treadmill. Yet, as of lately when I get on the scale (at the same time i always have) I noticed that I have picked up a pound. This has been consistent and I’m just curious because I haven’t really changed my eating habits and I don’t think I should be gainging any weight…unless its muscle.

Yes it is muscle. It has come around the right time that it should too. Its perfectly normal.

When you lose weight you lose all the extra water that you dont need in your body. Then maybe a couple of pounds…depending what you were in the first place. then you start to put on muscle, especially since you are working out too. Its nothing to worry about it. what you need to do now is try stick to the same weight. this is…changing your water into muscle…if you stick to the same weight you will be thinner still.

When you’re trying to lose weight through exercise, it’s often better to rely on how you feel, how your clothes fit, etc. than the numbers on the scale. If you feel like you are getting thinner, then you probably are, even if you’re still technically the same weight.

Really don’t bother going by weight, just by how things fit
